Mrs F has had a email saying she is due a tax refund. She is expecting some sort of refund but she's not sure if it's genuine.

Has anyone else received an email about this or does information only arrive by post

99.9% sure it is a scam. HMRC will email you to tell you there is a message waiting on their secure app if he are going to contact you. I don’t believe they mail you to tell you what the message is, and they only use the messaging system in their app.

Unless things have changed in the 24 months since I left HMRC, they won't inform you of a tax rebate via email, the same as they won't demand payment via email.

You will have a personal tax account with HMRC accessible from gov.uk. you can check your tax there.
