Nice bit of "Extreme 3D"...

I was flying model heli's when 3d started over 15 years ago...

Two guys from Slough radio controlled models were the first in this country to fly in that style(Bob Johnson was one), and they were sponsored by Ripmax (importers of the Concept 30 heli) and they smashed them in every 5 minutes or so... All they di was get new bits bolted on... Made us mere mortals sick as parrots...:bang:

I never got past the hovering "inverted" just above the ground (nowhere as low as that guy though  I could hear the blades tappin the ground:eek: ) I do still appreciate the skills of these modern day R/C pilots though

Very impressed,

Rolfy

Ps.... I would hazard a bet he also uses a setting on the tranny on one of the "idle ups" so that the motor is running at 90% or flat out wherever he has the throttle/pitch set. I believe pitch setting goes from +9(about) to -9(about) but the throttle at +/- 9 is full, and at centre stick, pitch is zero degrees, but the throttle is still at 90% .... Also probably a heading hold gyro as well....

At a guess.

Rolfy Clive @ Ripmax was the firts guy to talk me into giving Helis a go,at the time I only flew fixed wing & jets back then or Ducted Fans as it was per JPX & AMT. A young gun by the name Paul Heckles got it in the air me on the buddy lead, I did it all arse for elbow did the easy bit first with no problems,
Now learning to hover that was the worst I lost count of crashes.
Then you have to learn picth & throttle curves Idle-ups Throttle Holds the list was endless, I can still remember my reaction when Paul said right we need - pitch  but wont that make plough it into the ground? Paul was at times :bang: be we got their in the end.

I know Richard still flys what about you.

Unfortunately not... I just dont have the time these day... What with working 60 hours a week/nights out/biking/shopping/and our "other" hobby, I just run out of hours in my life.....

I always wonder if I could pick one up and fly it nowadays... Its supposed to be a bit like riding a bike (always there)

As for Clive at Ripmax, I knew him a little, as with Paul Heckles... I remember Paul doing the "hang it off the prop thing" with his large scale Aerobatic demo models....Small world aint it ??? LOL

I used to have a lot of model aircraft includint a quarter scale Stuka, and a quarter scale Astir CS glider... Helos were Concept 30SX, Hirobo Shuttle TS, Schluter Junior 50, Heim Bell 222. Jan used to say the garage should be renamed the hangar...LOL

maybe get to have another go one fine day.

Happy new year to you,

Rolfy & Jan

Don't they make fly-by-wire heli remotes now? You can just control pitch and rotation and stuff and the processors adjust the real world control surfaces.
