I remember in the 80?s when petrol cars had oil changes at 6,000m and diesels at 3,000m.

Now fleet mechanics tell me that they change oil in modern petrol and diesel cars at 20,000m using semi-synth or 30k using fully synth. :dunno:

Blackbird engines are recommended oil changes at 4,000m using semi synth. 8l1nd

Are we being ripped off? Discuss.

Yep,, 8000 miles with cheapo stuff for the Blackbird,,,,,, I heard someone was changing oil every 2000miles,, :dunno: can't think who it was though.

oil technology is astounding nowadays,, just lasts & lasts,, most new cars have a yearly or 18000mile oil change.

I would start looking for somebody else if i was you.

sounds like you are getting stuffed each time.

One difference is.....

....that the oil in a petrol or diesel engine is only lubricating the engine, whereas in a bike its common to the engine and gearbox. the action of the teeth meshing in the gearbox produces a shearing action which breaks down the molecules in the oil, and after a period of time the oil looses its viscosity and therefor its ability to protect moving parts as it should. Hence the ned to change the oil more frequently.

4 to 5K

I change my oil at about 4 to5K,,,,, Honda recomends every 8K not every 4K,, & while the blackbird engine is a performance engine,, its not stressed at all,, its completely bullet proof,, thats why honda recomend the use of good quality mineral oil,,every 8k,,,,, not fully synthetic,,,,,,, its not like its a "V" twin which is a highly stressed engine & manufacturers usually recomend using fully synth in these.

now come on who changes the oil every 2K ? :} I know someone does.

So off the mark

So its you is it,,,,,,,, :} changing oil every 2K,,,,,, so you think the blacky has a highly stressed engine,,,,,, so thats why Mr Honda ( who incidently build the bleedin thing,, in case you had forgotten) recomends an oil & filter change every 8K :dunno: do you read the service manual at all .

Anyway,,,,,, if I am talking bollocks :dunno: makes a phookin change from you doesn't it Plumpy:m

surely mr honda knows what he's talking about, after all,it was he that builds the fookin things.
maybe plumpy should get a job with honda as a consultant if he's so fookin clever :dunno: sounds like he's in imaginary mode again and needs some :h

Surely

Why can't you just drain your old oil out and replace the filter with the cheapest one you can get your hands on then simply refill with the oil you have just drained out.
After all the filter should have filtered out the bits you no longer need?
The trick is to use a clean container to catch the oil surely?

Whilst we are on a maintenance subject if your chain stretches that bit too far out of adjustment then simply cut out a link - simple innit?

Same with sprockets if the teeth hook then whip it off, turn it round and pop it back on again - you'll get twice the mileage!

Lastly only wear protective clothing when you know you are going to fall off that way you'll not overheat on hot days.

After all they are only 180 mph machines what possibly could go wrong :dunno:

Work out the precipitous and synchronous forces of reciprocating masses at peak revs .

Just cos the oil is only changed every 8000miles doesn't mean it isn't a stressed engine. Work out the precipitous and synchronous forces of reciprocating masses at peak revs and then tell me it isn't highly stressed.

I actually find myself in charge of consultants and they do the work. Good rates but I wouldn't expect you to understand the results anyway.

I also 'imagine' I can ride my imaginary bike better than you can ride you real one

PPS. It was good to see Rob, Andy (with haircut), Andy, Andys mate (the one), Ben. Jim, James, Pete, Russ, and co last night.

oi...you saying i'm thick or wot re: wouldn't understand the results????a bit presumptious of you methinks.
you can "imagine"riding your imaginary bike like rossi if you like....i don't give a :f ,all i was saying is if honda don't know when a bike, bird or other needs a service, oil change etc etc

who the fuck does

perhaps they should scrap their service interval/book and just let us guess/get on with it ourselves :dunno:

An engineer

Are you,,,,,, thats Y you THINK you know it all  ,,,, worked for a few engineers,,,,, one was also studying core mathmatics :dunno: , tried to get me to polish a shadow out of a window frame,,,, funny when he stepped aside, the dirty mark (shadow) was gone,,,,,, think I will stick with good old fashioned common sense.
