This is an ill-conceived and poorly thought-through notion and I'm appalled that this thread has not been immediately deleted by the administrators of this website.

To incite followers of the MotoGP series to adopt attitudes towards competitors that include partisanship (some would say "fanaticism"), rivalry and, to a certain degree, some hostility towards those whose loyalties do not match their own is not in the interest of the sport - or of this forum.

I am no saint (no...believe me, though you might think I am, I'm not!), but my views have always been fair and impartial when the need to comment (constructively, of course) has arisen in the past. For example: it is fair to say that Valentino Rossi is the greatest motorcycle champion of all time. I should add that any previous references I may have made - for example: "Nicola is a tosser and she'll follow the same path as Gibernau if she's not careful" - were made without rancour, with complete impartiality and with the conviction that my expressed beliefs fully reflected the truth of the matter. (I am not partial, in any way, to Miss H, and on this logic rests my assertion of my impartiality.) Therefore, in accordance with the above (and also on the basis that I didn't think of it first...) I appeal to all forum members to boycott this thread.

...We already know that Valentino's the greatest, anyway... :bow:

...So, what's the point...? :dunno:

I agree that Rossi has been a dominant force in gp's, and without doubt one of the greatest riders ever, but like last year, he ain't going to get it all his own way and to win the championship this year, is going to need lady luck on his side.

With Stoner now on a top factory bike (unfortunately looking like carrying an injury to the 1st round), hopefully he will start to exert his influence at the top. Capirossi has always been so nearly there, could he be more dominant on the 800? I beleive so.

Pedrosa, I will be the man to challenge Rossi head on. He's real hungry for it and has a point to prove to Rossi. The 800's are more like a 250, again perfect for the diminutive Dani.

it is fair to say that Valentino Rossi is the greatest motorcycle champion of all time

Is it? I disagree. Maybe the greatest motorcycle champion of YOUR time, DA.

Giacomo Agostini; 15 World Championships. 1968 - 1972 won the World championship in 350 and 500cc GP! That's 5 consecutive years in 2 championships.

Mike Hailwood; 9 WorldChampionships plus a Formula 2 car World Champion.

Rossi has an enviable record in motorcycle racing, and still has time on his side to break more records, so I don't deny his talent. Rossi is in the top five all-time podium finishes in the premier class on motorcycle racing. Note DA that he is not No 1.

Everyone loves a winner, hence Rossi's fame. Me personally I admire Biaggi more so. A year out of World Class racing and he goes and wins first time. Unbelievable :bow: Would like to see Rossi do the same.

Just my 2 penneth worth :dunno:

Seen ?em all ? live 'n' in livin' colour! First glimpse of a race bike in action was of Bill Ivy over the mountain at Cadwell. :eek: Painted me first helmet in Phil Read?s colours ? second in Agostini?s. (Yep ? I?m a very old fart indeed!) :}

I reckon that?s purely because the demands of modern racing make it nigh impossible to race in multiple classes during a single season.

Nope. Followed him since the 125?s. Back then, he fell off a lot and each time he moved up a class it took a season before he found his feet. He lost his title last year ? and we still applauded him every lap until the end. 'Sall a matter of record. d34l

I think he topped that when he left Honda for Yamaha then won consecutive World Championships on a bike that Biaggi couldn?t ride. Even Colin Edwards admits that Rossi?s ability to produce the best results from inferior machinery elevate him above any rider in history. I could go on to quote Mick Doohan, Wayne Rainey, Freddie Spencer, Randy Mamola... :-:

...But I think you?ve got the gist...

...Nice try, M8 ? Keep ?em comin? (Oo-er, Missus!)! :beer:

PROPER Fighting Talk...!!!

Jerry Burgess and Valentino Rossi, the toughest duo in motorcycle racing, began the verbal process of softening up their opponents - after they had already crushed them on the track in the final pre-season MotoGP test session at Jerez at the weekend.

Burgess, the greatest crew chief of modern times, said in his famously laid-back Aussie-speak: "One would like to think we have a good bike for all circuits." Translation into pitlane-ese:

"We're coming to get you, you bastards, and this time we're making no mistake."

With the typically Burgess bring-it-on talk, he added: "The better rider didn't win the championship last year. As a team we worked hard and got up, [then] got knocked down again, but it's only made us stronger."

...Seems to be taking things quite seriously...dunnee? sp1ttt3

Rossi slow ...

Quote ..............

However, HRC might respond to such demands by pointing to the top speed of Valentino Rossi's factory Yamaha - the Italian finished the Jerez test fastest of all, yet was ranked just 14th, 14th, 13th, 8th and 20th on the top speed lists. The former five-times MotoGP champion's highest speed was 270.2 km/h *proving that corner speed and braking, rather than straight line speed, was more crucial to his success.* The fastest Yamaha was Rossi's team-mate Colin Edwards, who hit 271.6 km/h.

* read talent *

any dwarf can ride down a straight fast ( I should know )

also haven't heard Rossi whinging

" his bikes faster than mine , my clutch this, whine, my clutch, that, whine "
