Normandy Accomodation?

Lebowski

Registered User
Off on a weekend trip to Normandy on Saturday, shooting over on the Tunnel. Aiming to jump on the autoroute and then cut across to Dieppe before heading down the coast road as far as Deauville.

Anyone have any experience of finding accomodation in this area?

Everywhere around Honfleur, Trouville, Deauville seems fully booked :bang:

What's our prospects of finding somewhere as we go or would we be better off heading inland?

Only looking for one night, back home Sunday.

Anyone got any ideas

Thanks JD, but the nearest one in the area is Le Havre and I wasn't too keen on spending Saturday night there....

Can't figure out if there's something special on in the area, guess it must just be folks taking advantage of the le bon weather forecast.

Stayed here http://www.mercure.com/gb/reservation/rates.jshtml earlier this year. It's less than an hour from Honfleur and has secure underground parking. The betting shop next door is also a pub and although the owner does not speak English he likes bikes and we had an excellent session in there. Also loads of Good restaurants in Rouen

Thanks for that, hadn't considered Rouen.

Always good to get a personal recommendation too.

Looks like they've got rooms available, have put it in the GPS and we'll use it as a back up if we don't find somewhere by mid afternoon on the coast.

Thanks again.

Thanks guys...

Had a fantastic weekend, motorwayed down to Dieppe then dived off and had lunch at Saint Valery En Caux (cheers DS ), then ran down the coast, over the Pont de Normandie to Honfleur.

Found out why everywhere was busy, they were holding a huge cycle race in the area!

Far too much lycra and beer guts!

Walked into the first hotel we came to and got the last room in the place! 42 euros meant cheap and cheerful but it was only for one night...

Honfleur is gorgeous. A small fishing village with yachts in the harbour, eight storey houses, loads of restaurants and not a chav in sight!

Ate in a lovely french (strangely) restaurant in a little square off the harbour, top food, reasonably priced too.

Next morning petit dejeuner in the harbour before setting off for a little village we passed through on the way back from the Pyrenees this year.

Lyons-la-Foret is a medieval village in the midst of a forest, a nice place for lunch or as a base for exploring the area.

Really nice ride back, with a few interesting roads, loads of interesting villages and a complete lack of open petrol stations. I'd planned the route to cross a motorway so that we could refuel and it would have been perfect had the maps loaded onto the gps..... luckily we had a map!

Stopped off in Boulogne for a meal before jumping on the 8.51 Tunnel back and was indoors at 9pm!

If you live within reach of the channel ports or if you've never been over on a bike, do it! We go over a few times a year but have never tried just going to Normandy for a weekend. It may not have as many twisties as the Alps, but the roads are empty, the food is superb and the beer's cheap!

Tell me about it :bang:

Had to rely on the base map, although the route was still there and it wasn't that hard to follow! You just had to make sure the arrow was pointing in roughly the same direction as the route, despite not showing any road at times! lol

Didn't find any mate

To be fair, didn't look that hard and due to the usual speedy nature of French waiter service had to settle for the house pression:beer:

You still thinking on Paris and the WSB? Sharons work any better?

Ok mate, no worries. Be good if you both can though....

Shall I have a word with Sharon and try to get you a weekend pass if she's working? d34l

It's not as though you get to see a Brit win a world championship every day is it?

Tickets for WSB are roughly ?34, you can buy them online and print them off, so no need to worry about getting them sent.

Seems like you can sit anywhere in the circuit too :dunno:

Looking like we're going over Friday early eve and back Sunday night at the moment.

Joy says hi and get yer backsides down here!
