Fit whatever then get a friend to follow you on a ride to assess how clear they are , my Bird came with smoked lenses that could hardly be seen in sunlight but looked ok in the garage . Useful bling is good , bling is ok , dangerous bling is , well , dangerous .

Agreed. I had the silvered bulbs behind clear lenses on my CBR600 and was told by a mate they were not that bright so I put the orange bulbs back in.

Since I've got the clear lenses I'll just put them on the back. I may at some point change the central lense and i think they're only clear and of course I'd like it to match.

Having smoked on the front I don't think would look outta place. It's just whether they lose brightness. Looking for advice I guess from those with smoked fitted?

p.s. I'm not big into bling but I just hate orange indicator lenses! :dunno:

More thoughts :

Once I get this bike on Saturday, I'll be using it straight off for work. As such I need to get an alarm, heated grips and a cover.

Alarm : what's good/bad? I had a Meta on my CBR600 and that was fine although I like some of the features on the datatool S4 (e.g. hazard light activation in case of breakdown etc). Any recommendations on where to have it fitted? Herts/Essex or London

Heated grips : I see Jaws does some which are a praction of the Honda price. I've also seens R&G do some even cheaper! Do these all plug into spare plugs in the loom or is it a case of wiring to an ignition live? Recommendations of where? Also where does the controller mount? The old Honda model used to go on the bars but it seems there latest just sticks on a panel somewhere.

Cover : Oxford Stormex? it's what I have on my existing bike. What size? L or XL
Anyone using the R&G one which gets good reviews? Do they one big enough?

Sorry for all the questions. Can you tell I'm a newbie to 'birds?

Hi Scotty,

Good luck picking your bike up on Saturday it does look like its a good day for it.

With regards to changing your indicators, I fitted smoked front, rear and a LED smoked rear light the darker colour does suit the bike.

I also fitted the 2010 Oxford Sports Heated Grips to my Bird, the controller is fitted using the bracket supplied on the front brake leaver (as my RAM sat nav mount is on my clutch leaver) the bracket slightly masks the kill switch and you need to make sure you bend the bracket slightly so the switch can freely operate.
It is wired directly back to the battery.
The 2010 kit has a better wiring arrangement so it is far easier to keep the installation tidy.

One other modification worth mentioning is changing the headlight to a HID as this seems to be one area of criticism with the bikes.
Its an easy enough task to do once you have removed all of the plastic!!

I will take some photos tonight so you can what everything looks like.

Thanks mate.

Well I've been spending some money already despite there beiing 24 hours 45 mins to go

I decided on clear lenses. Partly as I've already got the rears on the 600 so they'll just swap over and partly as I thought the clears on the front matched the headlight. Either way it was a close call.

Heated grips - I've ordered a set from Jaws and he's sent me a detailed installation document which will be very handy.

I've HID's on the 600F which I'll transfer over. I saw on one forum that removing the screen and then the dash was all that was needed so that seems easy. I'm disappointed to read that the headlight shell is adjusted i.e. I can't adjust dipped and main separately

I've also a ScottOiler eSystem to transfer and of course my Honda dust caps :-0)

My Stormex was delivered yesterday in less than 24 hours for ?66

I just two incey wincey things to sort out : the insurance and how I'm getting to collect the bike.

p.s. My 600F feels a lot slower after last weekends test ride. Do you think I've upset her :)-(

I know what you're saying Scotty! When I was riding my old 250, I'd jump on my brother-in-law's VFR800 & think it was pretty quick. I went for a ride with him for about 4 hours last Sunday morning & I spent about 45 minutes on his bike. Nice bike & all but man, I'm so glad I decided on a Blackbird over a Viffer! Chalk & cheese stuff. He couldn't believe the difference either.

Hi Ya Scotty,

I see you are commited to clear indicators, oh well I thought I would post the piccies of my smoked indicators and rear light to show you what you are missing!!

I bought them off EBay (sorry Jaws!!) from a German company called White Lights I had a similar set on my VFR and was really please with the quality and service.

I have also shown tthe mounting of my heated grips controller and RAM mount for my sat nav.

I bet you are excited about tomorrow arn't you.

I like the fronts a LOT! The rears look a tad dark for my preference but often cameras lie.

Thanks for the pics. I'm sure I'll have some to post soon.

Excited me? Only 10.5 hours to go :-0):-0):-0)

Clear or smoked, I still think that Chromed bulbs look best behind lens covers, it stops the egg look that u get with orange coated bulbs fitted. p0pc0rn41

I've definately be trying these bulbs first. Previous experience says they're not too bright (the ones supplied by Clear Alternatives so I'm likely to end up with orange bulbs I think. :)-(

I collected her yesterday. I may get some pics up later. At the moment she's naked as I'm swapping all the body work.

I've swapped the nose cone and added my HIDs so hopefully today is just a bit of a tidy up and put the fairings etc on.

Primer?! Undercoat?!?! WTF b0x1

Anyway my get out of jail card is that I'm colour blind and hence generally go for more neutal colours and a lot of black, grey etc. So have a go at me about colours and I'll play the medically disabled card! :-0)

I tried the silvered bulbs I had and they weren't simply bright enough so I put the orange bulbs back in .... but behind the clear lenses.

Just waiting on the fronts now :lick:
