Well the new hoops are nicely scrubbed in .. went for the BT023 GT's in the end.

Have to say that having used the Avons I'm happier on the BT's.

No doubt that the turn in is way, way, way better.

I wouldn't say there's anything wrong with the Avons ..... they lasted well and never gave any "moments"

Whatever the reason is, the Avons (for me) just don't naturally like to tip into the corners. :dunno:

Next time around might think of somehting else to try :-0)

GT023's are the nuts, dry and wet grip, best tyres I have ever had on the Bird

Come on you Hatters
From talking to someone at Hunny on Saturday they do seem to be well liked, but still only good for 4500 miles, aparently!! Being the premium price they are there's a lot out there that deliver so much more as a whole package.
Having now tried Storms I'm no fan of them, so I'll be trying Angels or Pilot Road2's or 3's next.

I'm going to give the Maxxis a try.....they've been getting decent reviews and the price is right, I've been a Bridgestone boy for years (though I wasn't too fond of the 020 front)

Have just had some Pilots put on, quite good with heat distribution, good grip in wet. Only issue is front is affected by side winds, or it could be that we've have some severe gales recently just after I changed. I have a fender extender so that may come into play.

Avons are good except by the time your wearing down the second rear the front starts to get angled off and handling is then not so good.

Front wear on BT020 became ribbled on sides and front centre didn't wear down at same rate so ended up with vibes on motorway (pos balance)

So the 020 Bird specific is no more?

Good too see a company like this get it's info spot on.....

Suggest you have a look at the "bird" front page under

usefull info

Bridgestone 020's

You'll see that you actually don't have to use the specific recommended fitment.

Bridgestone themselves make that clear.

In my own words : the recommended fitment is based on their best guess at what would be best ... they then may test that on the bike and if it's OK it become the "recommended" fitment.

As they themselves say ... there is no reason why the standard tyre would not be OK ... if it's the right size & speed rating it won't be dangerous.

They don't test all types/fitments for a particular bike.

Wow - This is news to me !! I have been putting 42psi in my Birds front BT023 since I bought the bike in July - had no idea they were supposed to take 36psi ???
I was sure My Honda used to say 36psi back in 2001 when I had my first BB - and I was surprised to read the handbook and find that 42psi was now the correct front tyre pressure.
Funnily enough - I posted recently oin a suspension thread that I have been wondering why I seem to feel every tiny ripple in the road surface thru my handlebars - now I think I understand why ...!

So can we rely on Bridgestones 36psi guide even though Honda say the bike needs to be set at 42psi front ????
BTW I love the BT023s - best feel of tyre I have had and turns nicely !

The 36psi is a source of much discussion, with one Bridgestone contact alledgedly saying 36 is a mistake, although my trusty tyre fitters say it's correct. If it was an error, the Bridgestone site would have been corrected by now.

I've done a couple of thousand on my set and I'm quite happy with them.

I've emailed bridgstone uk + bridgestone biker club site tonight regarding this,

I use MTS tyres Nottm he knew nothing about the 36 front,

I'm on my 3rd 023gt back, 2nd front, so I've done about 11k total on 2 fronts both run at 42psi, cannot fault them, been brill.

but I won't be dropping any pressure unless they insist, don't like the thought of riding 36 front, as i think the Bird seems sensitive to low pressure.

would possibly try michelins next, as I don't like being given bad info,

will wait for email reply, before acting

Well this is the Bridgestone site link !

I note that the other link is to teh Bridgestone Bike Club ??????????

Oddly enough being in England I don't tend to use the Bridgestone Ireland website....

I use:

http://www.bridgestone.co.uk/tyres/motorcycles?WT.srch=1&WT.mc_id=Search_UK

and if I do a search on the ie site it tells me that Bridgestone don't do any tyres for a Honda Blackbird CBR1100XX

I Wonder which site is correct ???

This is really hilarious. I find also that if you click on Ireland it doesn't have tyres for a bird. So ......... I click on GB and that's the link copied from the result !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So what are Bridgestone messing at ??
