New Humberside Police Camera Van

I have found out today on good authority that Humberside Police are employing the use of two unmarked speed camera vans. A white van and a blue one which have a set of ladders on the roof (some poor attempt to make them look like a workmans van). Their justification for using such tactics is that the coffers are down! Is this not a sign then that the marked vans are working and reducing speeding in the designated areas?
The vans are based at Hessle Police Station and will be used to cover both the North and South of the Humber River. There is also one unmarked bike using the pro - laser at designated spots but at the moment I dont know what sort of bike it is.
Of course the Humberside website makes no mention of these underhand tactics that they have now reverted to.
It makes me :puke:

Are there signs up warning of these vans, I am not 100% certain but I seem to remember seeing somewhere that if there are no warnings then it is entrapment, perhaps our friends in the force can enlighten us on this.

They may use the vans on routes where they already have the speed camera signs up, however as you probably know, the marked vans have the great big giveaway chevrons on the back so they can normally be seen quite a long way off. If they site the unmarked vans on similar stretches this may of course cover the "entrapment" theory?

I do not claim to be an authority on the subject, but common sense should prevail.
MOST forces agree to the Association of Chief Police Officers guidelines of using vans marked with the usual Hi-Viz markings (like on normal Police motors), as well as the usual speed camera logo's. This is to prove that they are using them as "safety" units as opposed to "cash Machines", and prove that they are trying to slow people down, not snare them.
As for signs, again, they should be displayed within 1KM of any speed trap (whether a trap is actually there is a different matter). But, at the end of the day, it is up to you to keep your eyes open!
On the matter of workmans ladders, it seems a little bit far fetched, dont you think? man8um %$fan

Many thanks for the info Paul.
It makes you wonder about the thought processes of the powers that be who sanction these sneaky operations. I am sure Police resources could be better deployed.
How do they get away with it. You would think that someone in the hierachy of the Police Force (Service?) would say " hold on a mo. This can't be right" Does not anybody challenge the Chief Constable or whoever is in charge?
Ah the deviousness of the criminal mind. I think that some of the Police have been working with criminals too long.
I think criminal atoms are contaminating our upright boys in blue. They are gradually being transmogrified and soon we will not be able to tell t'other from which.

My info has actually come from a traffic bobby who was herself disgusted with the way this force seems to be employing its tactics. How true it is I dont know but apparently some of the camera operators are even working weekend overtime shifts to take the vans out.
As for the ladders, I can very well believe it and I may even take a trip to Hessle with my camera and have a look around the yard to find out for myself!

Heres hoping I dont become transmogrified
