I read about this last night and thought it would be a very apt memorial. The crews of Bomber Command deserve it and although there is a fine memorial in London depicting a bomber crew, it's in London. I think the only place to erected a memorial is in the heart of bomber country, where it belongs.

Of all the forces who contributed to the WW2 victory, Bomber Command were probably treated the shoddiest. Their sacrifice was swept under the carpet at the end of the war (along with those brave men who manned the Arctic Convoys) and far too many former aircrews passed away in peacetime before any memorial was even considered.

This one will be a life sized representation of a Lanc, which for me is THE iconic heavy bomber of WW2.

If you're interested and think it's worth it then you can donate here:

If I remember right, Mick Mannock VC was known as the "one eyed ace" as he could barely see out of one eye.

Sadly even Winston turned his back on Bomber Command post hostilities to avoid the fall out resulting from the carpet bombing strategy.

Be aware with JustGiving - a percentage of what you give (from memory 5%) goes straight into their pocket. They even take the same from the tax relief bit!!
