Howdy from Fort Worth, Texas. :)

Picked up a 99 Bird a little over a week ago. 1000 miles later, I still can't wipe the grin off my face.

Hoping to pick up some wisdom maybe some occasional farkles or spares.

Thanks for the great site.

So am I to assume the previous owner was a bit of a "flamer"?

You might assume that, but you know what they say about assuming things, right? :-0)

The flames will go away eventually. My Bird will eventually be all black again, or maybe some sinister shade of red. Time will tell.

The word Farkle belongs to the vernacular of the North American motorcyclist, and refers to accessories or the act of accessorizing a motorcycle.
Farkles may include any accessories but especially those intended to increase the function of a motorcycle -- vs. those intended to glamorize (i.e. if an accessory is chromed, it is probably not a farkle - see Bling.)
Examples include items that do not arrive as standard equipment on the motorcycle, such as Radar detectors, GPS systems, heated grips, satellite radios, highway pegs, or top and side cases.

Is a lunp
nice arse end, but a set of high rised stubby cans would set it off much better.

Thanks for the welcome, folks.

Thanks for the clarification on "farkle". I'm definitely more into functional mods than bling, the flame job notwithstanding. The limit of my farkling will probably be a navi and communication (bike to bike) system, and the already installed Throttlemeister.

Performance-wise, exhaust is on the short list. Those high rise stubbies sounds nice, assuming no clearance problems with panniers. A Power Commander to go along with the exhaust would be nice, but first we'll see how it does without it.

Incidentally, the flame job will probably be going away. Just doesn't seem to fit me or the Bird too well.

Again, thanks for the welcome!

Hoping to pick up some wisdom

Depends what sort of wisdom.

If it's Bird related, look else where.

And watch out for the Bog Dwellers. Sneaky devils. Mind you very similar to the folks in your deep south. Inbred.

Welcome aboard.

Do you know Florida John?? He's from the USA

Other than the rain, that sounds fabulous. I've toured for a couple weeks in England and enjoyed myself immensely. How 'bout a temporary exchange? :-0)

Spring time in North Texas may not be the best time of year, though. We've had rain everyday for the last week and a half. Now that I think about it, it started the very day I brought the Bird home. :bang:

What's a guy to do but ride the damn thing anyway?

Ah well, at least we have a few weeks of greenery before the Texas heat sets in and scorches everything brown.

I'm still undecided. Some days I like them, other days not so much.
