Well have just gone to our yearly South African Motorcycle show, and with disguist found out that Honda is loking at upgrading the Blackbird. They will ultimately replace the current Bird with a VFR1200 junkie....

The desision is still not final, but this is what the one option would look like.
They are still wondering and debating about an upgrade to the cbr range in stead of going the vfr route.
Well all that I can say is that even with all the claimed increases and the new V5 motor, it is still not going to run away from my current 2002 model.
With a few adjustments and replacements of parts I've managed to increase the output to 189 HP on the rear wheel. This is confirmed throught a Dyno run done by a reputable company in SA.
Not that there was ever anything wrong with the stock Bird, I just wanted to know what could be done.
Top speed - as per police radar scanner - 360 KM per Hour. Please note that this was achieved over a 2 KM straight from a dead start.
I am sure that there is plenty left, but our roads do not really allow for these speeds, and the racetrack is simply just to short.
Well now I would like to see what the new VFR1200 would be capable of, I've just placed the old Bird on par with the potentially new one...
1200cc against 1200cc with approx. the same dry weight.
The only thing that is a bit better is the usage of 2 Yoshi Tri-Oval Cans, this was to try and get up to the same BHP as the new VFR1200 - 190
We did come close with 189 - Some fancy custom work was done to lighten the bird, without loosing any of the characteristix.
The old one in my opinion is still better and by far quicker that we think the new VFR Might be. Would liek to put these 2 next to each other on a straight. Afterall these werent made for racetracks, but rather interception.
