Hi,
Always wanted a stealth black one just rode one into my garage, this is number six!The faint sigh from other 97 bird parked at the back of the shed was only slightly audible. It will be going soon.Q.why does my 04 BBird have no mesh over the air scoops like my Carbed model?I have a fine pair of Jaws bar risers, has anyone got a fitting guide?
The tyres have got to go been on bike since 08,so a little hard.Carb or injection they are all good......argue,debate at your leisure!
regards all.
Old bird sold two days ago,to a nice guy who bought one of me a while back,to a good home.Sorry to disregard forum rules re advertising on here as a newbie!!In self defence,I assumed that having Six Blackbirds since 2003,and covering 120,000 miles on all collectively,i have just never been a Forum kind of biker until recently.Lesson(slightly clenced teeth)...learned.

None of the EFI models have the mesh.
If you look up the ram air tube you will see vertical bars.
They are there to smooth the air as much as possible before it enters the plenum ( air box ).
That is how critical the air flow is... Fitting grilles on the ram air holes disturbs the air sufficiently to cause a reduction in performance ( no idea how much in BH but know, after some testing, it takes about 10mph off the top end.

Given the late 01 to 08 models are already the slowest ( not a joke of a jibe, they really are... top end ABOUT 164mph compared to the carb ones which are pegged to 184.6 MPH ).

The carb models are a different set up. There is no ram air at all. The holes in the nose cone merely feed air to the oil cooler.

But even the carb ones are critical on air intake.

One of the most common faults I get asked about occurs when someone has had the nose cone off.. They put it back together and suddenly struggle to get over 90MPH !

There are 4 baffle plates fitted in the carb nose come ( two clear plastic and two translucent ones ). If they are not put back in place performance is gonna suffer terribly !

Hey firey Phil,
I have a '97 bird, titanium in colour. I have just put a deposit on a 2006 'black' bird, for the same reason as yours. This black bird is in immaculate condition, as new, with 12,000 kms done. It has so many extras. I'll post a pic when i pick it up in a few weeks.
I dont think i will sell the oldy though!
