Have you ever employed anyone to carry out work in your house? only for them to completely balls it up.

My Daughter got a joiner to fit some architrave and skirting in her recently purchased house.

The Joiner goes by the name of Luke t Shaw and he is active in the South Yorkshire area, he advertises as an apprentice trained joiner, strangely enough he only has a mobile number which he is now refusing to answer, and his business card does not have an address on it.

Have you tried your local Trading Standards Office ??? They keep records of dodgy businesses that people have complained about.....they may be able to help with an address or landline phone number.

Has your daughter paid him as yet ???? :dunno:

Unfortunately he came to our house to be paid, my daughter was at work so my wife paid him. It is already in the hands of the trading standards.
I just posted this thread as a warning to anyone having work done, make sure you have a legitimate address and home phone number (not mobile) and don't pay until you have seen the work and are happy with it, maybe stating the obvious but If people can learn from this then this thread is worthwhile.

Looks all too familiar

I am in the building trade, namely kitchens and garage doors. I spend a large amount of money every year to advertise in the Yellow Pages. One stipulation with advertising in the YP, is that you have to supply either your office or home address. This whittles out a lot of the shit-heads that give tradesmen a bad name.
I would always recommend to anyone;
1 Ask them for a business card, if this doesn't have a land line number on it, leave well alone.
2 never to pay a tradesman without an invoice, which should have all his details on. If they can't or won't give you one how are you ever going to get in touch with them if something goes wrong in the future?

Personally, I never ask to be paid for a job until I am totally happy that the customer is 100% satisfied, I even wait for up to a week in some cases before I send an invoice, that way the customer has total confidence in me and any product I have sold them or fit.

Just out of interest Derek, were did your daughter get this guy from?

Cheers but the likelyhood is he's a gyppo, and once he has your address you don't know what might happen, We are just going to see what the trading standards can do, we will try the legal route first.
