I just thought I would show you my bike, the before and after pictures...

It started off life as a two-tone blue 05 bird, added a few bits and upgraded the suspension and then decided to change the rear to someting a little slimmer looking ! tried to source an R1 / R6 tailpiece & subframe on ebay but gave up. Eventually found a guy in worthing who makes custom tailpieces, but not for the bird! but he decided to give it a go and this is the outcome..

By the way the pipes are MTC, and sound nearly as good as my old 'blue flames'

I like it....

Vinterceptor, Ascar,

I've put some more photos on, hopefully they show a bit more detail..

The cost is relative I suppose, on ebay I was looking at ?150 - ?300 for a good condition R1 rear end, and there was no real guarantee it would work!

Yes, it was a one-off so was dearer as 'Mac' didn't have anything to work from, I bought a spare sub-frame (?50) and a pretty beat up original tailpiece (?30) so that he could get an idea of dimensions and fit..

He then took a mould from an R1 he had, and some detail from a fireblade and combined them around the subframe and used the original blackbird tailpiece to get the tank fiting right.

Ultimately, I got exactly what I wanted with the hugger, lights and indicators all fitted. His idea is to make the replacement tailpieces a simple fit so that when sent out you should be able to put it on with minimal modification. Luckily he needed my bike to experiment so I got 90% of the work done and was able to ride it home.

Cost wise it was ?600, but to be honest for the quality (Jaw's can verify how good it is in the flesh) and the fact it was the first one of its kind I'm happy with the price.

He now has the mould made, so yes, he can do a run and the price should be less given most of the work is done.

Hope that helps - if anyone is interested I can give him a call and see about prices etc

You should get a commission on any future sales for doing the ground work.

Did ya see the Japanese? custom bird on here a couple of weeks ago with every conceivable mod fitted to it...... only thing that ruined it was the pig ugly original tail unit.

Like the tail unit, any chance that he could do one without the pillion pad? My Bird is already classed as a single seater :-0)

When we originally spoke about the project I wanted a single seater but changed and asked for the rear seat to be added.... All the other tailpieces he does come as an option for single or two seater so I guess the simple answer is yes!

love it ,but dont think the misses would, looks pretty high pillion seat and no grab rail or mount for top box etc..pretty stunning though...i like to see something different...fit yourself a zx12r front end next.

Mcrivit,
The seat position isn't too bad.... its not as extreme as some of the newer sports bikes but the passenger is definately raised up slightly higher than on the original seat.

I keep thinking about the fronf fork conversion but I'm failly busy so weekends are a bit precious, just to ride the bike... if it was a straight bolt on conversion I'd do it but my impression is that its a fair bit of work... The conversion does look good though!

Is a lunp
screaming out for a nice carbon set of stubbies alongside the swingarm or an up and under the seat pipe
