You will note that I called it a British Black Bird not Blackbird. Hunters are still in active service in at least one African country, Pakistan only retired theirs a few years ago and Switzerland a few years before that. How many modern aircraft will last that long. The one in the photo is actually 49 years old and still going strong (and flying regularly)!

The 'scaffolding' is so that we can ride in comfort to, and stay in relative comfort at, European rallies. Cars are no good for bike rallies. Besides, the better half and myself have reached ages where we do things for ourselves, not for what other people think of us.

Steps down off soap box.

It is so typical that the reds reject the suzbox, don't blame them, at least they are feeling sorry for the poor black one and allow it near them. The Suzuki rider's real bike must be in for a service, must be a loaner.

No, it's definitely mine, it's outside the house now because the step at the front door is too high to get it indoors! Still, you obviously have great taste.

I knew him too, I think he also had a Sea Fury and I can tell you what happened to him, unfortunately. He was killed at an airshow several years ago in his Sea Fury (I think). I have a photo of it somewhere, if I can find it, I'll let you have it.

I remember the Shooting Star as well, it was all black (naturally!), with a silver Knight's helmet and plume along the side. The last time I saw it was at Greenham Common years ago.
Ormond owned 3 T-33s, G-OAHB which was knows as the Black Knight & an all silver G-WGHB & another silver 1 which remained on the US register & the Avro CF-100 Canada. He also had the Sea Fury G-AGHB & in 1977 he aquired a Cavalier P-51D Mustang in which he was killed in Germany after owning it for about 3 weeks. He also had 2 Bristol Bolingbrokes ( Blenheims) under long term restoration & found in India a large amount of Spitfires, many of which are flying today.

Hunter's abed at the moment, he gets up at some ungodly non-existent hour of the morning. Also, I still ain't fixed his PC to he doesn't get on-line often. I'll ask him tomorrow if he knows you, but he's more likely to remember faces than names, it's an age thing:lol:

If you know WV318 from three years or so ago, you may well know him by sight too. Short, grey-haired, looks a bit like Eric Pollard. He was the Chief engineer at Delta Jets until his illness in June 2002 and accompaned the Hunter most places. Regular visitor to Lyneham and usually did the families day (with me in tow sometimes).
