Colour! Black is not a colour, it's an industry standard!

As for these multi-coloured and brightly coloured versions, well, why call it a Blackbird then?

I'll have to send you a pic of a multi-coloured non-Blackbird.

ianrobbo1

good looking AND modest
is that old plane

from Duxford Air musium:rolleyes:
and isnt it a hawker Hunter, and not an sr71 SUPER BLACKBIRD :dunno:

Tis a shame about the ''industry standard being so s low''

Correct, ianrobbo, it is a Hawker Hunter. The last of the thoroughbreds. Not an SR71 Blackbird, but our British Black Bird.

Remember, the SR71 didn't last 50 years!

Not only that but the USAF wouldn't let us have one even though I told them I already had one Blackbird here.:B

Skippy, I'll let you have those pics as soon as I can, but we had a meltdown on the PC involving reformatting and re-installation yesterday and SWMBO can't get the scanner drivers to work at the moment. Women!:bandit:

And to think, I've let her loose on two wheels (with L Plates) at last (after all she's 46, so it's about time).

Oh, and the Hunter is not from Duxford, they haven't got any that look that good!

She's from Delta Jets at Kemble and lives in a very large stable with four more Hunters, two Gnats (of Red Arrows fame) and a couple of Jet Provosts (but we don't usually admit to those).

They all still fly, even at their age, although they're all still younger than I am!

So why isn't there a photo of your Bird in Owners Bikes, then Skippy? Not black or something?

Lovely stuff......

Owning one of your own would be pretty nice too!

A rich bugger from my old uni at Cranfield owned a Lockheed Shooting Star and a Tempest. Ormond Haydon Baillie if I remember his name correctly. Wonder what happened to him?

I knew him too, I think he also had a Sea Fury and I can tell you what happened to him, unfortunately. He was killed at an airshow several years ago in his Sea Fury (I think). I have a photo of it somewhere, if I can find it, I'll let you have it.

I remember the Shooting Star as well, it was all black (naturally!), with a silver Knight's helmet and plume along the side. The last time I saw it was at Greenham Common years ago.
