Motorcycle taxis to be banned.

Transport for London (TfL) has anounced that they intend to ban motorcycle taxis from the end of March, following a change to the Private hire vehicles (London) act, which states that a private hire vehicle should have 4 wheels. TfL have already publicly announced that they consider motorcycle taxis to be unsafe, despite the fact that in ten years of operation not a single passenger has been killed or injured. Among the companies affected Virgin Limobikes, who run a fleet of FJR 1300s, have pointed out that as well as the perfect safety record, their riders all have at least 10 years experience, and are all IAM qualified. But apparently the unblemished safety record and high standard of training for riders is not enough to convince TfL.
This comes at a time when TfL has still to implement any effective measures to deal with unlicensed minicabs. A recent operation by the City of Westminster led to the arrest of 10 drivers (incuding one who failed a breath test, and 4 who were either uninsured or had no driving license), not to mention the fact that according to the 2002 figures there were 212 rapes and sexual assaults in illegal cabs. Once again bikes are legislated against, so much for the role of PTWs in the integrated transport policy.

As an interested party since 1966, I have often been amazed at the odd policies implemented against the motorcyclists of the UK.
Time and again motorcyclists are legislated against. If ethnic or religious minorities were treated nearly as shabbily as motorcyclists I have little doubt human rights activists would have long since been storming the walls of government with protestations.

Given that it is recognised motorcycle use is an excellent way to relieve the issues of pollution and traffic congestion within the capitol city, and the fact that it is rapidly becoming almost common knowledge the traffic crisis was deliberately engineered to make congestion charging palatable, would the minister care to comment on the following information which has recently entered the public domain ?.

And as to starting a religion, I did actually look into this a few months ago.. I am sure a search will bring it up..

But it is a non starter without sufficent followers.
Yes it would be possible and it would not be unreasonable to worship a living god such as a certain italian gp rider ( noooooo... not the emporer, I was thinking more along the lines of the doctor ), or indeed anyone else we chose.
But it would take considerable funding and I am not totally convinced whoever the instigator(s) are, that they would not get a midnight tap on the door.. Paranoid ? Me ?? fookin right I am mate.. The brit govt makes the spanish inquisition seem like a game of 20 questions..

But I digress.
If we can raise enough money to get a decent campaign going to bring the deal to the attention of enough bikers, and get them to genuinly GO to meetings up and down the country ( would not have to do it for long.. a few months would be enough ), then yes, a religion could be registered.
The rules governing that religion are quite frankly amazing. You can more or less dictate to your followers anything.
Example that would not work might be the great god Zorst whose mighty voice could be heard across the land.. so followers must have open cans fitted.
The answer would be ok, just so long as you do not RIDE your bikes that is fine..

But one you could get away with is that your face must not be seen whilst riding a bike as you defile the purity of the God Hislop by trying to fool people into thinking your he.. therefore you must always wear a tinted visor that only allows x light through.

The reason example a would not work is cos it affects others, while the wearing of a dark visor, while it COULD be argued might affect other people, directly affects only you the wearer.. Phew !


For instance, while it is illigal for me to carry a locking blade 2.5" pen knife ( which I really do use for work ) it is legal for folk of other religions to carry a 4ft sword along with a 12" dagger.

Other members of religions do not need to wear bash hats, while still others can marry more than once ( which I finf downright fookin odd to be honest.. WTF would anyone want more than one mother-in-law ! ).

A small group of monks who live in Suffolk have been given dispensation to catch ducks from the local pond twice a year and eat them...while their children do not have to attend any formal school.. No, they do not even have to be taught 'at home' as their religion says they will learn as they pass through life.

So, anyone fancy putting up, say, 80 to 125 grand for an advertising campaign ? R#?

Talking of Taxi bikes anybody here been to the Dominican Republic, taxis there are honda C50s/C70s and C90s and you often see them with five or six people on them we actually witnessed a woman sat side saddle on one breast feeding her baby, nobody wears crash helmets or leathers main dress code is vest and shorts, wondere how Mr blairwitch would cope with that.

On a personal and probably selfish note I voted labour and I probably would do again, just to stop the Tories getting in, It is the Tories policy to privatise most of the prisons, which means less control over prisoners, prisoners will have more rights,we will have no say over working hours and practices, and we will be on less money.

Returning the thread briefly to its starting point, I had a meeting today with a lady from the BMF who's brief is the traffic in the London area.

Having had a little time to think about all of this, I suggested to her that it might be a good idea if someone was to get a heavy hitter on the side of bikers.. someone who is internationally famous, puts millions into the economy, and is directly involved in the present situation..
