Moriwaki system

Slow to change it, works so well as is but couldn't resist this.

Full ti zero moriwaki race system.

Weldings rather neat, god bless their little yellow hands.

Light. About 14kg saving it seems.

Popped up on ebay. Bagged it before auction end.
Was originally on dave hancocks bird supposedly. Stacks up, his name and address at Honda Slough are on the original label.

Pretty much as new, which is nice, sat on a shelf all those yrs. Maybe our dave didnt like loud bikes. These were over 250000 yen from mori back in the day, thick end of 1500 gbp.

Seems filter and sump nut are still accessible. Has a groovy cnc bracket to relocate the stop for the centre stand. Well though out.

And..

..are on the way.

Spoke to dyno man and aftermarket jet kits are out. Stock range of jets needles should cover it.
Stock she pulls the usual 133 on a 250I, concensus seems to be high 140's with the usual bird dip eliminated too. Hopefully mpg wont suffer too much. Im keeping induction standard.
Will post up graph when done.

My birds obviously carbed and has covered under ten thousand kilometres from new so im hopeful the studs will ease out with some plusgas and swearing.
Any relevant advice very welcome indeed.

good looking AND modest
A VERY nice exhaust, I had one on a previous bike, I hope it doesn't heat the offside lower faring up as my Akrapovic has, :bang: something to look at when you put it on!!:dunno:

I'd be looking for a discount TSP.

There's a couple of big thumb prints on them. 8rfl@

They look superb!

Okeydokey watch pipe clearance so.
Going to start hitting the studs with penetrating fluid for a couple days in advance. Would like to change the studs over too.

So she's fitted...

Those spurious studs were not wanting to go into the head so ended up going to a Honda dealer and buying some. Weird as both were m8.

Hilariously she started dropping coolant when warming her up for the job. She'd never done that before but luckily it was just the above which needed nipping up. Likewise the others.
I think the fact she's only done sub seven thousand miles from new and being eighteen yrs old means it's time to change the hoses too.

Prep wise she was warm, all studs got a careful crack of a hammer and they'd been sprayed for days with wurth's rost off which actually does what most folk think wd40 can.
All bar one stud came away clean. Cylinder number one was hanging onto its stud but the nut relented. I tried removing it but it whispered threaths so left well enough alone and used a new nut.

The system being a four into one rather than a four into two into one meant that on bike assembly was impossible. At least to my skill set anyway. So with the headers and mid pipe built I offered it up and with the help of my third arm and many blocks of wood and wise prep she went on.
Incidentally I assumed four into two into one wouldave been better for power than four into one? Suppose Moriwaki San knows more about the behavioural dynamics of hi speed gas flow than most so who am i to argue with him.

Fitment wise I obviously wanted her away from fairing but not touching the sump so I torqued everything from the headers back with a popsicle stick spacing it.
As a precautionary measure I'm buying thermo tape as used by the Ducati lot when fitting systems. Should stop me flapping about possibly melting the plastics. Mind you the fairing gets hot down there despite the supplied bracket that pushes out the lowest fairing edge. In the mean time I've applied halfords foil tape there.

The centre stands stop is nicely relocated and sump/filter access is perfect. Overall it fits great and oozes quality.

So here she is with her dress on...

Took her to a dyno for fine tuning.
The headers are now very rainbowy post max rpm runs.

Model is 250i dynojet where birds pull 133. All stock induction and carbs.
Tuner said this was an exceptional result. First run showed that everything over 5% throttle was bang on. Its my feeling that this system was designed to run with stock set up adjusted to match.

What was done was the carbs were balanced and fuel mixture carefully adjusted till co was right. They were well out of whack and number 4's header was marginally cooler when measured. Once sorted she settled into a steady rhythm and pick up was instant.
Test ride showed zero fulff at part throttle and the usual 5k dip is no more. The thing is an angry turbine and transformed. Delighted with it.

Very nice system @tu*

From the dyno results it seems Moriwaki san learnt quite well from Pops :-0)

Leaving everything else aside, worth having just so you get to say 'Moriwaki'.

Fit a Wankel engine and it would be a dream combination:-0)

Love that. A combination of threats and death! 8rfl@

Cheers lads, it's surprising how civilised the noise is. Low burble at idle and a deep sound up to mid range but not loud! Now mid to upper rane sings but its not obnoxious.
The spin on Sat morn suggests mpg is largely unaffected but I'm eager to see what a tank in a motorway will do. As all jets and needles are stock (likewise filter) and I have more power in theory I should use less.

Ps I knew she was slightly rich as standard but is that the case with all birds carbed or otherwise?
