It does not particularly bother me that Andrew keeps using the word "clickbait" I just find it predictable and a little boring !

Just a suggestion andyBeaker, if you are not willing to open links then maybe you should refrain from commenting?
In my defence the original post made it obvious what the subject was and that has been widely reported and frequently misreported (even the bmw owners club website has been a source of endless disinformation on this one) and the second post suggested it was ‘scaremongering’ so there is every indication that the link is clickbait.

Either way, Look at it another way - would you click on an attachment on an email that you you received from an unknown source?

Clicking on websites is similar in many ways - the information gathered from you just by clicking on a website can be used for all sorts of purposes, some less sinister than others. Sadly it is very much part of the modern world and one that I do my best to avoid where possible. While I have some issues with the bbc reporting standards that is my main source of following the news as one would hope - and it is only a hope - that cookies are used by them in a responsible manner. I wouldn’t touch sites like Huffington Post with a barge pole; the mere fact that in my very limited patronage they tended toward sensationalist reporting and that, in my opinion, tells me that they are simply looking to attract clicks. Why do they want to attract clicks? To attract advertising and distribute your data to anyone they feel like selling it to - it is a massive industry.
All correct but anything constantly repeated in a way that berates people eventually pisses them off big time
I and I suspect most folk do not need or want someone belittling their posts with the same comment
I do not think ( though stand to be corrected ) you are even applying the term in its correct sense at least some of the time
I take your point John albeit I do not agree that I belittle or berate anyone about clickbait - I really don’t think that many people understand the consequences of opening websites. It is the Wild West, almost totally unregulated with YOUR personal data being sold as a commodity to the highest bidder for heaven knows what purpose. Where do you think all the junk and spam originates? And I may be in the minority, but I tend not to believe a lot of what is said on the internet for that very reason.

.If you think that is a patronising/belittling/berating thing to say I can’t change that - it is a personal opinion that I believe has validity.

One thing that would make me less cynical about clicking on links on here and other sites is if they were not posted as hyperlinks - clicking on a hyperlink is a total lottery.

Slim stated a while ago that his tech skills are significantly below the level of his granddaughter's
, so I can imagine that he spent many frustrated hours trying to figure out how to do that, before finally working it out.

As such, he probably feels a real sense of achievement.

Now you have destroyed his newfound belief that he has acquired a level of technical wizardry that has until now eluded him for so long.

I hope you are proud of yourself.... crushing a man's ego so comprehensively.

Someone who still thinks the BBC are paragons of virtue in the media/online, are seriously sheltered or blinkered.
