More computer help needed!

Sunday morning, SWMBO dropped a whole mug of hot lemon squash over our laptop. Needless to say, it ain't working. I've just left it for a day now, after trying to get it working yesterday afternoon. It does nothing and the screen is blank. Has anybody got any ideas, I haven't got the first idea how these poxy things work and it's driving me mad ((especially having to use the old tower system that was festering in the corner). If all else fails I guess it's a trip to PC World for their own style of customer care...:bang: :bang: :bang:

In that case, why not throw a bottle of cheap Champers over it, makes a nice Bucks Fizz !!

I'll agree with DK. It will be completely kn@ckered.

Get the insurance to stump up, and see if there is any possibility of saving the hard drive as a competent technician should be able to transfer everything on it to your new one.

As usual I will disagree with the rest ! LOL !!!

Ok, take the battery out.

Figure out where the BIOS battery is ( its a small back up battery type thing ) and remove that too.

Now the next bit sounds fookin nuts but.....

Go to your local car shop and buy enough de-ionised water ( battery top up water ) to fill a sink or something else large enough to hold the lap top.

Fill said sink dunk laptop in water and swill about for a good fewminutes..

Leave it to soak for another 10 minutes and then swill around again.

remove laptop from water.
Hang laptop us in such a way as to ensure the water will drain out of it.

Leave it draining for a full 24 hours

Once you are sure as much water as possible has drained from it pop it in the airing cupboard and leave for 7 to 10 days.. Stand it on a teas tray or similar not rested on blankets.

After that time pop the batterys back in and fire her up..
Chances are you will have to go through a set up routine as the BIOS will have reverted to a default status ( this will include setting the date and time on the machine )

Hopefully all wll be well though..

Lets face it, the most this is gonna cost you is a couple of quid for a load of water.. It has worked for me countless times ( Usually coffee into Compaq laptops at Eastern Electricity offices ) and has only failed once ..

Especially effective for Liquid Crystal Display's. Put a squirt of TCP in the water and sort out all your viruses at the same time.......... :p

When mine was covered in red wine, I disconnected power and battery and left a few days somewhere warm.
It now only boots when the keyboard is disconnected. The obvious solution is to get a replacement keyboard at about ?50, but skinflint me would rather try washing it repeatedly. At the moment it's on a list of to-do.

Daft as it may seem JAWS idea might well work.

I have one of those usb memory stick thingies that I left in my pocket and put through the washing machine....... needless to say it didn't do much afterwards.

Rinsed it in clean water, dried and tried it again,,,,,, nowt.

Thought "bugger" and stuck it in a drawer. A few weeks later I was cleaning the drawer out and thought I'll give it one more try and then chuck it.....lo and behold it worked... no loss of data and it's still working now...

:yo: :dunno:

Yes Mac, distilled water is just as good... The idea is to use water that has as few impurities in it as possible.

And D D, it really does work mate.. no bullplop.. after 10 years in I.T. believe me this is a (repeatedly ) tried and tested method..

The reason the thing has died is not cause the circuit is damaged ( takes a good few days for that to happen even with fairly costic eatables ) but because it had essense of lemon in it as well as sugar.. Basically an excellent conductor of elektrickery !

Once it has been got rid off there is a very very good chance all will be fine ..

Yes done that still reads that it's the laptop that's fecked, doesn't want to go back to using tower. so the way I read it is that looking for ideas how to get the laptop working again.

So may I suggest you re read the original post before commenting on my commenting on your comments :f
