Midland Massif to Assen 2003

G'day all, as many will be aware the Midland Massif have had a few rides and the odd weekend away during the 2002 season. To take this one step further and to put a toe into the eventual Eurobash water that so many have expressed an interest in, the Massif along with the blessing of the B.I.R.D. mangement team are going to the WSB round in Assen during the weekend of the 5-8 September 2003. These dates are provisional at present as the WSB organisers have as yet not confirmed the callender for the 2003 season.

To date ther are 16 people going over with confirmed hotel rooms in Assen.

The plan is for each individual to make there own arrangemnts for ferry bookings and hotel reservations, unless previously contacted by me, along with any insurance they feel they require.
Hopefully all will be booked in the same hotel so we can have the odd beer together and enjoy the race day as a group, along with a ride up and down to the various ferry ports that will be used.

So, 12 of us are crossing over from Dover to Calais and intend to sail on Friday night, stay in Calais and meet up with those who cannot cross untill Saturday morning at the docks. We will then ride up to Assen as a group and on from there, with the same intention on the return leg.

If anyone other than the Massif who have already booked wish to join our little weekemd away please contact me directly or via this thread and I'll give you all the details of how to book and who with, times etc.

I appreciate its a long time untill next September but with the number of bikes crossing the channel that weekend there is only a limmited amount of ferry space available, so an early booking is strongly recomended if we all want to try this as a group.

Cheers

Let's know the details as we are currently trying to sort out a trip ourselves. May be going with soem other mates [non Blackbird types]. We usually go to Brands but like you would like to try something different. Be interested in knowing your details so even if we don't travel with you it would be good to meet up sometime over that weekend.

Assen is definately on the 'to do' list. But, working on a massive IT project and the live date is..............September 2003 - can't even plan a weekend off for any of Sept. Looks like it'll have to wait for yet another year.

UPDATE

G'day all,
the storey so far is 18 going to Assen. All have hotels booked in Assen.

The next stage is those who I have been in contact with regarding the hotel Appelscha can you mail me and let me now for deffinate if you will be able to cross to Calais on the Friday afternoon/evening and so stay in Calais firday night. I realy need to know this by Sunday 17th November as I am going to try and block book the hotel rooms. As I cannot get a reservation on line (all booked) I am going to try the old but trusted method - phone them. So as said I realy need to know who is going to make the crossing. Those I do not hear fromI will take it that they are either crossing early Saturday morning either stopping in Dover or traveling dowm on the morning, or even not crossing from Dover.

Ok peeps, look forward to hearing from you

Yo skins,
well thats another hotel booked. All those who mailed me and you know who you are, are booked into an Ibis hotel, 10 mins from the ferry port in Calais, still had problems booking online so got on the phone and booked 7 rooms that way. As far as I know there will be 20 people when we get to Assen, so its going to be a bit-of-a-do, lets p-a-r-t-a-y.

The next thing to do is sort out a few rowing boats for the crossing. The ferry operators dont like to book much before January as there new price list is still at the printers, so I'll mail all concerned in January as to what time we will be crossing.

Cya all soon:m

****UPDATE***

Yo dudes and a happy new year to you all.

To bussiness, I have recived an email from the Hotel Appelscha, the Assen destination, regarding the accomodation we require.

He (Ruud, the hotel manager) has told me that we have a small problem with the ammount of double rooms we want, due to ZI-tours taking a block booking there is a limitted amount of rooms available.
What we have is 7 Double rooms and 3 single rooms. What we need is 8 doubles and 1 single.
He has told me that if ZI-tours have not booked all the rooms they have an option on then we will get what we require. There confirmation date is April 03.
On the bright side, ZI-tours didnt manage to fill any rooms last year so I dont see a problem.
With regard to Friday night in Calais, the rooms are booked for those that got back to me, thats 7 Double rooms at the Ibis hotel 5 minutes from the docks in Calais, so there will be a few beers sorted that night

In the next week or two I shall be sorting the ferry crossing for the Friday evening. I am looking at crossing at or around 4.00pm, to get into the hotel by 6.00pm. If anything has changed with those who wanted rooms in Calais on Friday night mail me ASAP.

Untill the next time :m :m

Confirmation

A quick line to confirm the ferry is booked and paid for, and the hotels are also booked. I'll mail all the people in the party over the next few weeks.

Also, During April i should know weather or not we have the option on any spare rooms at the hotel in Holland, so I may be mailing those that showed an interest since we booked, fingers crossed eh

Mor info

the ferry has been paid for and am awaiting confirmation from the travel company.

About extra rooms. Well I have emailed the hotel asking for a first option on any available rooms he may have after Zi-tours reserved option is done with , sometime this month, so we may have other rooms in the near future.

So, Mike and Deb, Moog and Alex, hold tight as you may be in with shout of a run to Assen. I'll mail you privately if and when the rooms become available.
