Mega Miles.........

Well on this one I only average about 1,000 miles per week.
Really worthwhile mods are: 6mm rear shock spacer, frame plugs, Kappa carrier and top box, mushrooms, genuine heated grips, C/F tank pad, baglux tank cover, touring scottoiler, red fox rear hugger, MRA double bubble screen, headlamp cover, rear mudguard extender, front mudguard extender, META alarm, datatag, sony walkman, mobile phone and autocom. Ridden every day in all weathers, shines up almost like new every time despite averaging a clean every eight weeks! Apart from things wearing out the only real problems have been Honda's f**king s***e dealers. Whose side are they really on?
I shan't bore you with stories of chains and sprockets lasting 37,000 miles, brake pads about 16,000, front tyres 27,000 miles, rear tyres 14,000 miles (no it's not a misprint). Currently on 43,000 miles and original clutch and discs look very good. Anyone suggest a Honda dealer in the south where they have had a good experience?

Bob

I have just brought a 37000 mile 99T reg BlackBird which the 1st owner had serviced at Abingdon M/Cycles and he had nothing but praise for them.

I have to agree, I have got copies of all the bills, and they don't seem to be too steep and the bike rides very well and belies the reading in the odometer.

Hope this helps

Yep - Abingdon Motorcycles continually comes out tops in the RIDE power surveys - family run business - well worth a try. They are located 30 seconds from the Abingdon turn off on the A34 - about 9 miles south of Oxford

Bob, R U serious ?

chains and sprockets lasting 37,000 miles, brake pads about 16,000, front tyres 27,000 miles, rear tyres 14,000 miles (no it's not a misprint).
'Cos:
depsite constant lubing (every 3 days on average) & adjustment, my O/E chain and sprocket lasted 12k. Admitidly the replacement DID chain has hardly required adjustment & the rear sprocket is as new. Oh, and I use Honda's own teflon based chain lube now which is the dogs and easy to clean;
I run 020's and get through a rear every 6k and a front every 7/8k which I think is reasonable;
Honda brake pads last no more than 10k which I also think is ok.

What's ya secret Bob :dunno:
I can recommend a good place for servicing in Leatherhead, Surrey if interested?

It's all in the wrist action.........
Plus I run a scottoiler.
The only chain lube I personally found to be very good is Castrol chain wax.
Smoothness is the key.
Why brake when you can shut the throttle?

Castrol Chain Wax????????

helped to ruin my chain last year and that's why I had to have a new one fitted :} When my bike was laid up for two weeks in Dec 2001, the wax trapped in the moisture on the chain and it slowly corroded under all that waxy stuff.
I now use Honda based teflon stuff and I wouldn't use anything else, however, you do have to use it regularly (so probably wouldn't suit your purposes), but it's clean (infact clear) and I've only had to adjust the replacement chain twice in 8k miles.
Thanks for the tip, but I only do smooth when I ride with me Dad who is 72 and rides a Fazer thou :} (this is meant as a joke!), although my Dad is 72 and does ride a Fazer thou (in shorts and sandles as he lives in Malaga) and is as mad as a box of frogs :neenaw:

Just to make you feel better Joe.......

..my chain is now due for replacement @ 16k!! The only piece of TLC it got was a scottoiller when I remembered to refill it!!:}

My sprokets where replaced @ 36k, still on the origional clutch, getting 12 - 14K outta the rear tyres and got 14k from the front one at the moment.

Bubba 12-14 k out of the rear tyre :eek: What you running ???

I'm lucky if I get 6k out of my 020's, however I do like the odd power slide or two out of the corners these days :blush: Serves no purpose but it's fun :}

Joe,

Since I posted that it has now gone to 20k from the front and 16k outta the back one. Running Macadam 100x's at the moment but as I am down to me last 2mm I think a change is in order. Fink I might try the Avon AV45, 46's next.....

Reg/Rec went kaput today

But not to worry as I had previously bought a spare one anyway.
Thankfully it just expired and just went under voltage so no harm done.
Twenty minutes later I was on me way.

dealers

Have you tried portsmouth motorcycles at the top of the eastern road, I had my 40000 service done there, and I also bought my bike from them, I have only used them a couple of times, but they have always treated me well.
