After having a vfr v-tec with full luggage and going to a bird without what systems do you recommend?

It's not in use all the time so will be in storage for a lot of the time.

I was thinking of the honda panniers and a givi topbox and rack but do they work together?

Thanks

Why not have all Givi kit? That's what I did with a full wing rack, which doesn't look too bad on the bike all the time, although I've kept original indicators instead of the Givi ones.

I've had the Givi top box for about 15 years now, but only got the full kit for the 'bird. I got the top opening panniers E41?

I don't know that Honda boxes are any different/better/worse than Givi, the only Honda box I had was on a Pan European and it was one of those shallow boxes, neither use nor ornament, but as I'd fitted the old Givi, I sold it on.

My dealer has said that givi don't do a kit for the 2007 bird (have just had a look on givi site and nothing there for the 07) but did say there is no reason that the earlier models would'nt fit.
I'm open to any suggestions.

Neil not sure if you can fit Givi top box with honda panniers without doing a bit of modification , someone will be along soon to confirm .
Agree with Mick why not go with Givi all round its what most on here use as well as Kappa , alternative to wingrack is SW Motech do a search and you should find some pictures , it looks a lot better IMHO when not in use rather than the rack .

ps i know mine is pictured with wingrack but it has been replaced with a SW motech need to update photos DOH !!!

Honda Panniers

Hi,

You can only fit a topbox to Honda panniers, if you are willing to make some modifications to the pannier mounting frame.

see attached for examples

I just use the panniers and a tail bag if necessary.

I use the givi wingrack plus keyless panniers & sometimes use of topbox.

I don't believe there's any difference at all between the frame/fitting for the 2007 'bird and the earlier FI's (not even sure there's a difference with the carbed ones)/

The main thing is that the earlier birds with the "narrower" indicators can just about have the rack put on without moving the indicators. The later ones, like mine, won't get away with that as the indicators are a bit wider set.

Personally I'd rather use the wingrack indicators as if the original ones are left on then they can't be seen with panniers on apart from almost directly behind the bike.

I know some don't like the look of having a rack etc on the bike when not using it, but the givi wingrack and wiring can be removed/replaced in less than 10 mins.
So sometimes I takes it off and others I leave it on....

Some on here use the SW motech as they feel the few bits left attached to the bike are less unsightly than using the wingrack.

I prefer the wingrack personally and would rather have no bits at all left on when I remove it.

Look around at a few bikes maybe before choosing what you feels suits you best.

personally i use full givi kit with their wing rack and its amazing just how much kit can be carried.but as i think the bike looks better without the rack i remove it when not needed ,this only takes 5mins as i leave the standard(modified by making them 10mm narrower)indicators on the bike.

SW Motech every time. Takes Givi cases and topbox but more importantly it looks good (almost can't see it) when the luggage and frames are removed.

Come on you Hatters
Before you look at SW Motech, be warned there are some horror storries regarding there quality. My mates fell off, just after he bought a brand new top box, its not brand new any more!!

The Givi wing is without doubt the best system. Looks crap when not in use, but better if you keep a top box on it most of the time which is what I do.

Helped fit some Honda panniers to a friends 2000 bird a few weeks back, and they are really really nice, but no top box as already mentioned. Must admit that although both attempts to modify the kit to take a top box are fair attempts, personally I think both look a bit amateurish (sorry guys) The wingrack certainly looks better than either IMHO, and it is only my opinion.

Hugh.
