Looks like the Bandit

Got a few insurance quotes for Blackbirds, and because it is over two years since I last had a bike (only by two months) I have lost my NCB entitlement
the cheapest quote I have had is with a company called zenith and that is ?966.35 with no legal cover and ?600 excess

For a 1200 Bandit I have been quoted ?400.76 including legal cover and that is with ?300 excess

So unless anyone knows where I can get Blackbird insurance at the same price as the Bandit then it looks like it's gonna be the Bandit for a couple of years.

And fook off over to their forum :k [/QUOTE]

What and miss your cheery banter, and your schizoid converstions with your alter ego (birdie), no way mate anyway just found a cheaper quote, so the BB is looking good, however I'm gonna wait until after chrimbo now all these questionnaires are doing my head in.
One thing that does intrigue me though H & R who I was insured with before, have quoted me ?966.35 with a company called Zenith, when I enquired online H & R quoted me ?732.25 with Zenith wtf is going on?

Derek, you either gonna love me or hate me for the following mate !

1) Forget fully comp.. It is a complete waist of money.. and when was the last time you needed it ??? ( and even if you chuck it up the road it still comes out better if you are 3rd party ......figures have been gone into so many times it is boring now ! )

2) Forget legal aid.. When was the last time you needed it ?

If the answer to either of the above is errr recently, then go buy a bandit ( 600 would be safer ) as the Bird is simply not for you at the moment anyways !

Try http://www.mitch.co.uk for a call back quote.. ( free :p )

Oh you might also try Devitt who quoted me the cheapest two years running but failed this year 0800 032 9458 ( free number :p )

I am with Bennets at the moment ( its another free number but I do not have it to hand )
This year I was charged ?111.00 ( I think ! ) to start with but then they gave me a refund which brought it down to about ?92.00 - ?94.. somewhere around that

I have found one or two quotes which are almost comparable to the ones I have had for the Bandit.
unbelievably 600 and 1200 bandit insurance quotes are almost identical.
it is definitely the blackbird that I would prefer
The last time I had an accident was 8/1/01 and I was fully comp with legal cover and I am glad I was. I have seen two many people still paying for years after they crashed their bikes because they were only tpft,
I am puzzled as to what you mean the 600 would be safer, I have over 30 years riding experience, the only reason I have lost my ncb is because it is over two years since I have owned a bike

If I wait another three years I can insure through Saga :}

You'll have to WAIT to use Saga :dunno: :dunno: , thought you'd qualify now on that.

My insurance has come up,carole nash asking for ?424 fully comp (with a gs550e and z400 plus blackbird).I wanted to remove the GS off the policy (it was valued at ?1000) and lower the value of the z400 and bird.My new quote was one pound less,so I laughed at them and got them to "check" there quote, they then came up with a more reasonable ?388.
I rang round to see if I could do better:

bike sure/Direct choice ?550
motorcycle direct ?412
Direct line ?680 (with only the blackbird on the policy and as long as I didnt tow a trailer  ,theye werent amused when I asked if a caravan counted as a trailer.)

Pixie tried a few for me yesterday. Two brokers found the norwich union were the best "in their eyes" although the two quotes were ?100 different from each other.

I really think some companies just make up figures for the hell of it!

I wouldnt recommend anything else especially on a new bike.
I spose fully comp is worth while if your a numpty who cant figure out one end of a hammer from another ... But then, if you fit in that catagory, me being a bit old fashioned about such things, you should NOT be riding a bike like the bird.
1) It is really old technology so no big hard things to suss
2) They crash well.. If you have a crash big enough to do a grands worth of damage ON YOUR OWN, then you are either bang unlucky or trying to kill your self ( and yes, I accept that these things do happen... same way that roofs get hit with things from planes, and folk win the lottery )
3) Buy right and a big off will still not cost as much as 1 hit on the fully comp buying scene..
3) Birds simply bolt together same as any other bike.. difference is things are bigger and easier to bolt on !

Oh and as your know all on such matters ( :p :f ) perhaps you would like to put the figures forward if you have a big off and you have zero no claims to start with.. you know, parts costs etc.. You can do this cant you ? Must be able to, as you made a catagorical statement so must be able to back it up with the math !

Us newbees aint been messing with birds since 96 really, so we need all the help we can get !

And dont forget to do the 3 year projection will you...Remember there is next year to take into account, and the years after that. And dont even THINK about protected no claims bonus.. cos that is yet another insurance scam..
If you have it and have a claim, next year you will still get your 60% no claims bonus ( or whatever ) but shock horror.. guess what.. the basic premium will have gone up 60% since last year..

Actually, I will qualify my statement somewhat..
If you have a good bit of no claims and you can get fully comp for under ?200 then sure, why not.. but thats about it though ! ( Fully comp for me is ?147 )

very true John BUT my FC cover with Honda allows me to travel abroad STILL comp and also carry a pillion which many company's frown upon + it entitles me to ride other bikes TPFT risk which i sometimes do.

As i ride on ST45/46's its more likely i will bin the BB so my FC is staying for now :p Oh and i can cover my kit too which is another ?1000.

My first time i insured it i was TPFT with CIA @?475
This time i went HONDA FC ?500 exactly, peace of mind if it does go on me as i cannot afford to get it mint again.
