Used to be a right good treat on the paddle steamers. New Holland to Hull. One and a half miles. Used to take anywhere from 45 minutes to 5 hours depending on the sand banks!
One of the ferries, The Lincoln Castle is now a pub, moored in Alexander Dock Grimsby. I don't know where the other "famous one" the Tattershall Castle ended up. The last paddle steamers on the New Holland/ Hull route were the Wingfield Castle and one that used to be used on the Clyde, the Waverley.
I last went on the ferry in about 1980. The steamers stopped soon after, when the then longest suspension bridge in the world was opened. The Humber Bridge. I think it held the record for a fortnight until a longer bridge was opened in Japan.
All the best to you Rolfy and Jan.
Kidderminster holds no fears for me now after being intimate with the roundabouts. Hope to see you next year.

You should be fluent in Ully Gully then Ian.

Eh, getting a bit rough in Grimsby. A guy was shot in the legs with a shotgun this morning. He died in hospital this afternoon.
