Earlier today I was in my bus heading towards my next pickup.
Roads are dry, fairly light traffic so not much about, 30 limit.
I am approaching a small roundabout with a central island on each side on the approach to the roundabout and one exit off at 3 O'clock.
Coming towards me, a brand new Audi A5 on a 21 plate. It seems that the driver had a lady friend on board and he might have been showing off, as suddenly as he gets level with me but going in the opposite direction I heard this massive sound of breaking and grating metal,
As I went past I saw that the A5 had mounted the central island, ripped out the floor of the car along with his back axle and wheel which ended up in 3 separate piles of junk on the carriageway.
I slowed but didn't stop but did see the driver get out with a very strange look on his face....
I went past the scene a couple of hours later and some debris remained but the wreck had been towed away.
Made me think that if the crash was not caused by a mechanical failure, I would love to be the claims technician on the end of the phone listening to the driver explain how he wrote off his brand new motor.
Phantom black dog? Pot hole on a newly resurfaced road? Heavy traffic that wasn't there? Terrible dry weather conditions?
We will never know, but you do find the funnies people in a German car
