Back in the day when our parents couldn't afford houses they raised the amount people could borrow from 3x one person's income and it was no surprise that during he 80's there was a housing price boom to make use of the extra borrowing.
Simple solution, go back to 3x for one income, make a load of cheap houses and let everyone foolish enough to buy a shed for a million sit on negative equity and can only rent until they shuffle off this mortal coil and their kids sell for what they can get. It will take a generation but we can sort housing out instead of making a cash cow for the City.
