A case in the local paper today - bloke driving pissed up, mounts the pavement and hits a lad walking. Knocks him 18 metres and kills him. Knows what he has done and drives off. Stops down the road to let his mate off who runs to a pub and calls the Police. They call at his home to find him crying sitting in the driving seat. When the Police do their checks, the driver has no tax, no MOT and no insurance. The Police said that "all 4 tyres where 90% degraded". Verdict?

4 years in prison! I give up!

Almost as good as the copper who got a ?400 ish fine and 3 points for driving without due care and attention, ran a girl over on a pedestrian crossing, she later had her leg amputated!! (And yes he was on duty at the time)

About ten years ago two of the wife's uncles were driving through Leeds, they were approaching a set of lights in headingley, the lights were at green, a copper jumped in front of them with his hands raised telling them to stop, which they did, at that point the police car behind did not stop and went straight into them, the coppers got out and asked them why they braked suddenly, the pedestrian copper denied telling them to stop, the case went to court and Bernard (who was driving) got three points on his license and a ?200 fine, the twist to the tale is that the car belonged to another uncle (george) who had his own mot/breakdown business, and he had previously been approached by two coppers wanting backhanders to put breakdown business his way, and because he told them where to go they stopped him and his son at every opportunity.

I have met some very good coppers, but I have also met my share of bad ones, like the one who came to take a statement when we had three ponies stolen, he actually fell asleep when my wife was giving her statement, he blamed it on our sofa being too comfy, unfortunately he was the one who dealt with our case all the way to the end, whenever we tried to contact him he was on nights, we not the police found the woman who had stolen our ponies, she told us she sold them to someone called Arthur in Bradford, one phone call and we found out that Arthur was a gypsy and we found out where he lived, we not the police asked him where our ponies were, and of course he denied ever having them, the woman who stole them admitted stealing them and selling them, the case went to Huddersfield magistrates court, we only found out the day before through our solicitor, myself and my youngest daughter attended, no sign of the copper, the case was thrown out by the DPP due to insufficient evidence. my daughter was heartbroken specially when the thieving bitch turned and laughed at us, when we got home I phoned the copper who reckoned nobody had informed him of the court date.
we later found out that the thieving bitch claimed she was stressed after losing a baby, and that her boyfriend had sued the police successfully five times previously

Yet another good case for not even thinking about involving the police Derek..
I know I should not be saying this, but around here we have our own ways of dealing with people like that.. the courts are just a waste of time thanks to weak kneed DPP up and down the country.

I have a question for you all ( esp those in a position to really know )

Given that most police forces are claiming to be too stretched and undermanned to attend more and more crimes, what IS IT that the police are doing all day

I have a feeling I know the answer already ( paperwork ) but would like to hear from anyone who can answer the question with some level of sureity
