Just fitted Avon Storm 3D XMs

I took the tyre in and the wheel was still balanced on and the pressures were correct so they suggested it could be this tyre or maybe it's not suited to the 'bird. Now since the tyre lists the 'bird/busa/zzr etc plus others like Chaz have found it fine then we think it was the tyre. It was an early tyre and I've now got one from a much later batch. They nornally charge you for a new one, send it back, if faulty refund etc but since it was still in the puncture warranty period a call was made to the Avon rep and it was changed.

I'll let you know Monday how this one goes as it's gonna get 1000 miles before then. Hopefully it'll be ok. Had to tell now as the other was also fine for the first few hundred miles.

Come on you Hatters
Bloody amazing....what is it with avon and dodgy front tyres. It seems they constantly have issues with them. Pot luck as to whether you get a good one or bad one.

Just fitted my last pair of Azaro's ready for France on Wednesday. But after these i'll not be using them again. The Storms that were on it when I got it were crap, the front again. The front Distanzia on my GS fell to pieces after just 2 yrs, and only half worn. Because I didn't pay for the storm, or have the Distanzia supplied and fitted by a stealer, Avon not interested in either. Fecking cottage industry company as far as I'm concerned :wank:.

Hopefully I'll get time to fit my Red bodywork for McBash, which has Michelin PR3's on the matching rims, which I know from having them on the Pan are superb. Although that's going to get a 3 front and 2 rear next set, slightly cheaper, but a DR I know reports better mileage from rear 2's with no noticeable difference in grip.

Been using Avon Storms for the last 3 -4 years and 80,000 miles or so both on an ST1100 and the Bird and love them.

Just had a set of the new 3ds fitted (well technically just the front as they sent the wrong size rear so I still have the Ultra 2 on the back until next week) , be interesting to see how they go :)

I did post about my new tyre in another thread but to keep this one up to date.

I did 1200 miles in the weekend including mixed weather .

As the miles increased over the weekend the front went the same way as the first and in fact ended worse. I really spoilt the ride and meant I was riding around the issue (worse on right handers and especially if still decelerating).

Unfortunately I was hit by a car the day after my return so I've not been able to take this up with Avon yet. My bike's not due back until September so by then I'm sure they'll be saying I've had it 3 months so it can't be too bad :bang:

Thanks to Jaws I'm now in contact with Avon's "UK ? Ireland & Benelux Motorcycle Sales Manager".

We'll work through my front tyre issue but I need my bike back from the repair shop first which will be another couple of weeks.

I'll let you know how things progress.

Just back on here after not being around for a while and sorry to hear about both your off and your front tyre problems Scotty. Glad you're in one piece.

So far I've been very happy with both my 3D XM's. They have done about 3000 miles and have no signs of squaring off. No problems with the front tyre either. Even after finally fitted a 6mm shim from Jaws a couple of weeks ago, to sharpen up the steering, it hasn't caused me any problems or "little moments".

Personally I'm very happy with them.
To add a little perspective to my riding style I have 5mm chicken strips on the rear which are lightly scuffed. So I'm not dragging my knees or scraping anything like some do. I only go further over when I'm on a trrack.
