Just fitted Avon Storm 3D XMs

The 3D bit of the name relates to little pyramids in the smaller sipes that are meant to lock the blocks of rubber together. I think it's just a marketing differentiator.

The XM bit means Xtra Mileage and only time will tell.

I came home in the pi$$ing rain and I gotta say that although brand new they felt as good as the Storm Ultra 2's that they've replaced.

I didn't really need the rear but I fancied a matched pair so have a part worn at home "just in case".

Fingers crossed these new tyres live up to the hype

Oh yeah and ?30 (i.e. free fitting) until the end of the month @tu* meaning I paid ?220 ride in/ride out.

Well done hope you gave yourself a pat on the back.

I've only managed 314 miles today.@tu*
I had to donate my batt to a friend cos his reg/rec went down. I gave him his batt back with loads of charge in, something to do with never letting my rev's drop below 5k;-0))

So what are these tyres like??? I use the maxxis diamond. I love them and I get 7k miles out a rear. And I dont hang about.:-0)

I've been on holiday (kids half term) so haven't used them since fitting. I was hoping to get out today to scrub them in but it wasn't to be.

I'm getting a set fitted tomorrow morning, ?240 less the ?30 discount so ?210, drive in drive out too. Horndean Tyres.
Nice to hear you were happy with them in the wet from the off, even before being scrubbed in.
I'm off to Spain and France on Sunday so I'll know a whole lot more about them by the time I get back a week later. Should be well scrubbed in by then :-0)

Done about 120 miles on them now. Grip levels seem the same as before.

They are 2mm bigger in diameter so you feel you up higher up in the air :-0)

The only thing I've found so far is that they feel harder. Not the compound but the ride seems firmer.

The turn is feels quicker but I guess that's just being on new tyres as the old were getting quite square.

What is the mileage range for the Avon 3D Storm w;;v

They say 15-20% more than the Avon Ultra Storm 2.

I just got 14k outta a front of them and get nearly 10 from a rear (mainly commuting) so I'm expecting big numbers ... although I'm gonna do a track day on them too.

I did 50 miles cross country on these tonight.... reasonably progressively.

There is no doubt that these are a much firmer riding tyre than the Storm Ultra 2's. Not just a bit. These are a lot firmer. They've been designed for Busa/Bird/ZZX1400 etc so I guess it's not a big surprise.

I know the old tyres were square off but these feel a sharper than I recall the Storm Ultra 2's feeling when new. Maybe it's just a mind thing but this set of new tyres seems to have changed the bike more than when I normally put a pair on.

Got mine today too but with time restrictions I could only do the 10 miles home. Chances of getting out before Thursday evening are slim but hop eot put some miles on them towards the end of the week.

Next week they'll be getting 1200-1500 miles on them so should be able to give decent feedback then.@tu*

The firm ride on mine has either eased or I've got used to it. I think it's the former.

No issues so far. I've yet to give these a go in the rain since scrubbing them in.

1600 miles in Spain and France, all in the dry, and can't fault them. Gripped well while hooning it through mountain passes on a well loaded Bird (Givi Wong Rack, 3 boxes + tent) and she didn't put a foot wrong.
Wet weather test will come along fairly shortly knowing the weather back here in the UK

Glad they're working for you @tu*

I'm going into the tyre place tomorrow with a view to swapping my front. It's got increasingly unstable.

The slightest surface issue or buffeting, a deceleration, slight change of line in a bend and it tells you it's unhappy. It's not going into tank slappers but there's a horrid uncertain feeling.

How are you guys finding these tyres?

I'm a fan of Avons and just wondering if anyone has done a big tour of put some serious mileage on them yet? I've read about the % increase in life expectancy but wondering what that actually equates to in real life commuting.

My Storm Ultra's are at the end of their life, done 4,250 on them at the end of this tank of fuel and the rear is on the limiter and the front is about 0.5mm behind it.

I don't do a lot of mileage really, I had a good tour last year and apart from that a couple of rideouts but mainly just to and from work, a round trip of about 16 miles with one decent corner and a roundabout.
