I got a letter from Radio Times today telling me my subscription is going up by nearly 20%. This now makes it full retail price and the only benefit is free postage, which is irrelevant at this price as we can pick one up when we do the weekly shop.

I have sent them a sharply worded email pointing out that my other magazine subscriptions are all less than retail and I can cancel and renew with a 40% discount. I'm now eagerly awaiting their reply to see what they have to offer.

My view is that through my subscription they are receiving the full value of the magazine but if I buy it off the shelf I will be getting a copy that they have received only the wholesale price for.

That's a really good point. It just shows, again, that loyalty means nothing.

Who buys the radio times these days?

We do. We prefer to watch telly old-school and as such we refuse to pay for any subscription services such as Sky or Netflix and just pay our annual tax bill to the BBC.

It's also a pretty decent read as it mainly avoids soaps and reality tv.

Er, @Stevebrooke .

I have always assumed that Radio Times is a BBC publication but maybe I'm wrong.

If so the original post looks like another example of the likelihood that the BBC is teetering toward collapse. Like many organisations it hasn't moved with the times and is now looking as old fashioned as a bank that has thousands of branches.

We've been getting it for as long as we've been married (ooer missis) and back then there two separate mags for BBC and ITV, the other being TV Times. It's a decent mag imo with plenty of articles, decent puzzles and good programme write-ups. We won't have any other tv mag in the house.

I hope you're right about the BBC.

Can you choose somewhere else? I live in London and it's shitty enough already! How about Norwich - it's nice there, I understand?

After a poor response from RT I have cancelled my current subscription for which they wanted £85.80 every 6 months and bought a new one which is 6 issues for £1 then £49.40 every 6 months.

That's what I thought, which is why I cancelled it and got the new rate. £85.80 is full retail.
Yeah but...... £98.80 per year to be told what repeats are on...?

Couldn't you just keep the old RT's instead....? :D
