Well here goes Nixy:

Left Harrogate (North Yorks) and caught the over night sailing from Hull to Rotterdam with P &O

Day 1. Rotterdam to Ulm (Southern Germany) 430 miles staying at the Hotel Garni Lehretal, ventured into centre of Ulm for a wonderful evening meal just off the main square.

Day 2. Ulm to Riva Del Garda (top end of Lake Garda), via Fussen, Innsbruck 290 miles staying at the Hotel Gardesana for 3 nights. This gave us time to explore Lake Garda, the hotel has brilliant food, but loads of local restaurants as well.m2 minutes walk to the stunning lake. Underground car park for the bike plus a swimming pool, ideal to chill after the long ride.

Days 3 and 4 we explored the local area using the ferrys on the lake and local bus. A trip p Mount Baldo by cable car is a must, amazing views and scenery

Day 5. Riva Del Garda to Breganz (Austria) overlooking Lake Constance via St Moritz, STELVIO PASS etc, a biking Mecca day of riding. 230 miles (long twisty miles!) staying at the Hotel Stadhotel Helvetia.

Day 6. Breganz to Cochem (Germany) 320 miles, intime to ride out to the Nurburgring approx 28 miles away, great roads. We timed it that way as the circuit was open to the public that evening. Staying at the Hotel Pension am Parkhotel Cochem

Day 7. A visit to the Nurburgring visitors centre first thing in the morning then onto Rotterdam port to catch the overnight ferry back to Hull. 202 miles

All I can say is that it was the most amazing trip, lots of hard riding but loads of fun time as well. Camera is a must....

Hope that helps

Ian.

Ok.. first off a bit about MCI

Shit hot company, very experienced and although no longer an owner, had nothing but Blackbirds for many many years and knows them and what they can do ;-0))

Next, as some know, this is a pretty regular run for me and her..

Southern end of the lake is a bit more upmarket in general and prices of all sorts reflect that

But the whole area rocks..

If you want a really good route with some amazing sights I would be happy to supply.. how would you fancy walking on an original glacier from the ice age.. then walk 10 yards and look DOWN on the clouds ?

Fancy walking over the top of a massive steam engine, that is hanging upside down !!

The route we take involves minimum tolls and maximum views while still using the autobahns to get past the boring bits ;-)

John I would appreciate any info I can get my hands on at the moment. Mci tick all the boxes but I know I could probably do it cheaper myself if I took some good advice and did some research myself.

Likewise. Hoping for a week to 10 days on the continent this summer and still undecided as to where we'll head. I'll be heading from Cherbourg but can pick up the route along the way.

If you make it as far as Gardone you could do a lot worse than visit Gabriele D'Annunzio's house. Definitely one of the weirdest and most interesting places I've ever visited. Google is your friend.

trigantle

Talking of which
If you fancy a hike, look at night on the North shore, up in the hills, & you will see the Castela de st Barbera, built by the workers of the Hydro as protection for the lake. Looks like the Virgin Mary, anyway, just follow the path up & up & up, then you will come to it. Sign the book & look at the view, worth the effort. Then if you fancy it, carry on up, climb the rock ladder to the top of the hill, & follow the path back around into town. Takes all day, & take plenty of water.
