So... Who's done one of the Iron Butt rides? Quick look picks up Wolfie & Brother_52 just on this page, with Geoff James on the NZ equivalent. I gather the UK arm have a new volunteer verifier so things are running more smoothly now. On an unrelated note, my SS2000 pack has arrived at last, almost a year after I did it. Time to start planning this year's riding...

am trying to sort out my ss2000 route and time to do it.

brit butt rally is on this weekend i think it is starting from leeds somewhere, and 26 riders I think, from around the world have just done 27 laps of the tt course in 30 hrs, judging by the reports and pictures it was a shit weekend fog, rain etc but all had a good time it seems.

Yes, that TT ride looks a bit insane - good fun though... Personally, I just spent 2 days riding UK - South of France - UK, with a good few hours in a hotel in the middle :-0). And a small nap near the beginning in Belgium, under a shady tree in a service station in the early afternoon, after struggling with the heat a little. All made up for by having to sit on the M1 for a couple of hours in contraflows in heavy rain/wind, lane markings not visible, cars everywhere...

Doing the big endurance rides is quite a personal thing - overcoming both the mental and physical hurdles and the feeling of personal satisfaction having completed one safely is one of the best feelings ever.

I've only done 5 1000-milers in NZ plus a round NZ in 5 days endurance ride so I'm not anywhere near as experienced as a lot of the regulars over here. The way people prepare vary enormously but my riding partners and I have developed a few preparation strategies that certainly help us. I don't know whether it's of any interest but there are some thoughts about preparation here: http://geoffjames.blogspot.com/2010/07/1000-miles-in-24-hours-part-2.html

Very best of luck @tu*
