All Horses Are Capricorns!

All Thoroughbreds from the Northern Hemisphere are born at the same time, which is the first day of January, meaning that all racehorses are of Capricorn zodiac sign! Not only do horses share Capricorn traits, but they also share biological traits! Whereas, horses belonging to the southern hemisphere are born on the first day of August.

The tragedy of this is a horse born on 31st December will be classed as 1 year old the next day, a horse should not be backed until four years old due to development but due to the above barbaric law some horses will be backed a year early & suffer a sagging back causing skeletal problems.

Don’t have a pop at me, have a pop at Fifth Gear where the information was broadcast. a

Cant trust anyone these days.

I can but assume they were referring to proper, desirable cars for those with style rather than heaps of crap used by the great unwashed.

The eight track cartridge so admired by this forum (well Slim anyway) was developed in 1964 by a consortium led by Bill Lear of the Lear Jet Corporation :)

The first Learjet (the Learjet 23) flew in 1963.

Production of the last Learjet was announced in 2021.

Ryanair have three Learjets used mainly to ferry engineers and parts around but also used by company executives.

A brother (Kel Ryan) of the founder of Ryanair (Tony Ryan) was my boss when I worked at Heathrow (I was not working for Ryanair).

Tony Ryan attended my stag do in 1981 and covered the bar bill after first discretely asking if it would be all right as he didn't wish to offend! :beer-toast1:

The Mars rover Opportunity was expected to be serviceable for 90 days after successfully landing on Mars; the expectation was that the dusty atmosphere would foul the solar panels that powered it.

It lasted 14.5 years. Photographs sent back showed frequent ‘dust devils’ that are believed to have regularly ‘hoovered’ the solar panels

The NASA Mars Climate Orbiter failed to land successfully on Mars in 1999 due to a component supplier using the metric scale in the software they developed that was different to that which NASA used and had specified. The metric scale was, with disastrous consequence, not compatible with that NASA used.

The project cost US$327.6m and had been sixteen years in the making.

Interestingly NASA did not blame the contractor (Lockheed Martin) but accepted responsibility themselves for not having adequate checks and quality control processes in place. How refreshing.

Interesting they didn’t have checks in place to prevent them from accepting responsibility
