Has anybody here had first hand experience with these bits of kit? I know that a lot of you think that Autocom rules in this field but I just cant justify the cost at the moment, however I don't want to get another bit of kit that is crap and ends up of the shelf?

Intercom.

When I owned my VFR 800 I tried several types of rider to pillion and bike to bike, over 40MPH useless, I have now succumbed to Autocom. Expensive outlay but at least it works......I hope! c7u8

Once upon a time

There was a thread on the forum about B to B and some of them lose range very quickly. If you are thinking of yourself and Sarah - losing connection over a fairly short distance is not really an option, is it?

Why don't you PM Clive and/or Quiney; I know on the Cloggers ride last summer, at times there was a CONSIDERABLE distance between the front (Clive) and the rear (Q) but how far exactly in truth I don't know - but I know they continued to communicate. (with Autocom)

I have a sneaky suspicion that you may be better advised to save up ......

good looking AND modest
I've been doing intensive research on this subject, prior to me actually committing cash to the subject, I have asked Both Clive and Quiney''John'', as well as others on both this and other site's, the conclusion I have reached, ''with ease'' is to save the penny's and go for the AUTOCOM system, a member of this forum has just purchased the new mid priced system from autocom, for a total of ?199, it has rider to pillion and the ''bells and whistles'' that go with it, phone mp3 jack's etc, and just requires a radio, to be bike to bike compatible,
IMHO with the good reviews and a price like that it has to be ''the'' choice,

okay, bike to bike. They are all the same, they all have the same power output, some have 8 channels some have 3. The intaride set up is one that I use and is pretty good. Stationary range is about a mile in open country, once you get moving this drops to line of site. The Autocom set up will accepy most types of radio, but Autocom will sell you one for an awefull lot of money. I believe that a Cobra radio ?30 I think is as good as any, but the Intaride set up comes with all the helmet fixings, PTT, battery or bike powered. All in all, I like the intaride set up and would recomend it.

Just placed an order for......

The Starcom system. Should arrive late next week. I will let you all know how it is.
Those I have spoken to reckon you can receive a mobile call (on autoanswer) and 90+ mph with crystal clarity. I feel this is probably "pinch of salt time" but I will wait to see once I have it installed. Seems to take MP3 rider to pillion and bike to bike.

If it were me, I'd hold out.

The next generation of mobiles are 4 months away and will have the option to operate like a 2way radio, being 'always connected' to one or more numbers when you wish.

All of these devices will have bluetooth, so a small bluetooth headset set up in your lid and your mobile in your pocket or under your seat and you're sorted. It will be a very NEAT solution and won't require all the power, leads and connections...............

Samster;

Do you know if this will allow you to stay connected to multiple other phones?

Too late for me I'm afraid, I have already ordered and paid and it's on route!

Jaker - I'm not sure at the moment, I do know that the way we currently use mobiles to contact one another will be changing for the better quite soon.............. You'll be seeing the first of the new devices on the big networks within a few months.......

Chaps - can I suggest?

Nealy - call Autocom and speak to Doug Sant, explain the problem and he'll sell you everything you need without having to modify anything.
Are both your squish band settings the same? Speak to Doug!!

Sam - bluetooth is certainly the way to go, unfortunately the bike industry lags behind the times by about a year at the best of times............
This way you can't pipe a music source into your lid............
Plus you have all the other wiring/connections incompatabilities to contend with the Autocom system.
Take it you know about the Vemar blue tooth lid?.........you have a poxy button at the back of the lid you have to push to operate it...........LOL!

Starcom just been delivered.......

Looks like the box contains everything needed including crimp jointers for the power source and in line fuse.

Can't fit tonight but I will probably have a go tomorrow evening and will let you know how I get on.

Masses of data on the Microphone which they reckon is specially patented by them and unique to them. We'll see.......

Bob - other sources like music won't be a problem. All series60 phones running the Symbian operating system can have 3rd party MP3 players installed on them - I'm using UltraMp3 at the moment on my Nokia6600, it's free and it fades to take calls, does voice rec. dialling, speaks the name of the incoming caller and you can say 'accept' or 'reject' to take or drop the call, I can advance tracks with voice prompts too.

All we need is the mobile networks to enable this new "2 way" service where the phones stay connected and you're billed for the amount of comms that take place (same as GPRS) and a slim enough BlueTooth headset to fit in our lids comfortably......................

Note: Bluetooth only handles the comms between the phone (underseat / in jacket pocket) and the headset. The bike to bike will handled phone to phone via the mobile operator..............
