I wont go into too much detail but my beloved BMW has been written off, deep sadness. So LV, the insurance have been brilliant, really prompt and their guy who appraises the vehicle was, with a little bit of cajoling, more than fair with the settlement figure.
The problem lies with either the recovery agent or the salvage company. At the time when I was being recovered I took out all the important stuff from the car, but left sunglasses, prescription glasses, medication, phone charger, shopping bags you know all the small stuff that accumulates in a car.
Got a call from the salvage yard today to say "we've been asked to box up and send your stuff" but we only have an orange handled "life hammer", so what about all the other stuff asks I? Nope bugger all else, so either they or the recovery agent has stolen/ throw away/ mislaid my property. LV were really apologetic and have asked me to list the stuff and attribute a value, not easy trying to remember what stuff was in there and they will pay me for it. There were some heavy duty prescription drugs in the car so I suspect someone is off their tits wearing my wife's sunglasses with a windscreen cleaning cloth on their head and a phone charger lead shoved up their nose.
This has really spoiled what was a up to now a pain free experience, bar loosing the car.

That’s a real bastid! When I had a crash towing my trailer, a car rear ended me hard, I authorised the recovery driver to take me all the way home about 100 miles - I had to pay the recovery. This was to prevent exactly what you’ve had happen. I then claimed the recovery back from the other driver, along with £12k repairs and a substantial whiplash compensation payout.

When my megane was written off it was taken to a place in Huddersfield, I went the next day to get my things out of it including my power station, a guy wandered over & asked me to call into the Office when I was happy I’d got everything, when I got there he handed me an envelope with £1 coin in it (my trolley coin) he told me they remove any money & bag it up, on the way home I was thinking about it, they bagged up a pound coin but not a £350 power station.

I had the same years ago, when I went to collect my stuff from the car most of it had disappeared - including the tax disc and the extra CD changer from the compartment in the boot.
The repair yard said they not touched anything, the recovery company said they'd not touched anything and the police said impossible to prove/not worth it. Off the record I got told "it happens all the time, the insurance will cover it".

Nothing from your car should have been disposed of without consulting you first.

If they have, then you are entitled to be compensated for it if you have the appropriate cover.

Might be worth speaking to the Insurance ombudsman as they get these sorts of issues all the times as the insurers just make assumptions and ignore their client/customer (You)

Wasn't Power Station an /80's Supergroup?

I seem to remember it being Robert Palmer & half of Duran Duran (Duran?). Odd thing to keep in your car.

I had a Cortina stolen and burnt out years ago. I went to recover what I could and between being burnt out and me getting their not long after someone had already had the wheels and tyres away. When the recovery agent went to get it it had gone!

About three years later I got a call, from plod, asking if I had any idea how the engine in my car might have ended up in a car they had stopped.
