Insurance offer

Allan

Well, had a call from the insurance company today, they are offering me ?3500.00 for my bike.
Book price is shown at ?4150.00 with 22000 mile on the clock, mine has 34000 so I think thats an okay offer.

Have an excess on the policy of 500 so that will be 3k in the bank towards another bike.

Anyone got a decent bird to sell for 3-4k (injected)

Allan - refuse the first offer and they usually come back with a bit more.
Especially if you can prove that the bike was in mint condition just before the smash.
If your steed wasb't quite tip-top in any latest photos, I'd me more than happy to work my magic, print you out some glossy pics and have your bike look in showroom condition.

Appreciate the offers, but on the policy the bike was only insured for 3k, so they are offering me more than I had it insured for, so I'm happy as I only expected 2.5 k (after taking off the excess)

Have a look on your policy wording, if it states that the policy covers the vehicle for current market value - give them your quote and see what they say, if they still won't consider it argue that when you took the policy out you were asked for an approximate valuation of the bike.

Alan, what YOU say the bike is worth is not even considered mate. Otherwise we could all go the other way and say our bike are worth 10 grand !
It all goes on the actual book price mate..

And as the others have said, NEVER ever take the first offer.. That is simply a tester to see if you are gullible ! :p !

Allan for god sake this is part of their game and they have you suckered.

When my first Bird was written off I couldnt get arround much just like you and so had time to argue with them. I was offered ?3200 to start with and they eventually paid ?4575.

Go to the most expensive Bike shop you know or ask us to and try to get quotes for the most overpriced bikes we can find.

Ask a friendly sales person for some way over the top quotes they WILL do it for you coz you might come back and buy a bike with some of the extra cash you get.

Hit them with loads of clippings from MCN and print outs from Autotrader showing ALL the greatly inflated prices from dealerships.

Tell them that you wouldnt dream of buying anything bike wise privately (coz they will suggest that) because of the dangers involved and the lack of comeback if the bike has no warrenty(what would they have to pay out if you had an accident and hurt or killed a pillion).

Do take up Bens offer it will help.

The more you bombard them with the more time it takes them and time is money to them, you on the other hand have loads of it.

Turn this into a private crusade to screw the buggers coz they screw us EVERY YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why dont we all just start looking for OTT bikes and send them to you.
DONT ROLL OVER AND PLAY THEIR GAME

Dear Allan,
Please listen to the above advise and act on it accordingly!!
the only things they can possibly do NOW is (1) increase the offer, or (2) give you what they have offered, from the moment they put the "first" offer on paper they were acknowledging the value of the bike so are now unable to decrease said offer, anything else is just a bonus as next year they WILL claw some of it back at renewal time,!! protected NCD or not
think long term even if you bank the difference the renewal will use it and more. :dunno:

You just can't resist it can you Bert, a serious thread like this where people are offering advice, and all you can do is take the piss out of Ian, some threads are open to a bit of piss taking but this time you've gone too far.
