Instrument cluster problem

Hi, I'm riding a January 2000 registered blackbird which has the analogue dash.
20 miles from Zeebrugge and the ferry, in pouring rain, I lost all instruments, i.e. speedo, rev counter, temperature gauge, fuel gauge plus F1 light and neutral light. Bike runs as normal and the lights all work including the backlights for the instruments.
I've checked the fuses, all OK. Checked the wiring to the dash, seems to be ok. Checked the black/brown power wire to the grey connector at the back and it has 12v. Checked the green/black earth return on the blue connector and that is OK. Anybody got any ideas?

I did read the earlier thread about the loom fix and I have done it on my other bird (2004 model) but a quick look doesn't reveal where the connector block is on this bike. I'll look a bit closer and do the fix, see if it solves the problem. Cheers!

Printed circuit board foil

On the back of the instrument cluster at the bottom, check the PCB's foil contacts where the plugs plug in for cracks on the conductor tracks. They can crack and cause open circuits.

That's it!

Nice one. It was as you said, crack in PCB at the connector, main power supply to dash. Spliced in a wire direct to first connection point and all now OK. Checked out the "loom fix" as well but it was all nice and clean but I sealed it all up anyway. Cheers.

Glad you got the dash problem sorted, but you really should look at doing "the fix" as sooner or later it will come back and bite you in the bum, prevention being better ETC, plus it's possible that the "clean" wiring can also take out other electrical parts I have first hand experience and my plug "looked" clean, the rot sneaks up on you!! :dunno:

It may look 'good'.................. Can't emphasise enough that doing the fix, which is pretty easy, is likely to prevent problems in the future.

You have been warned:-0)
