my fatherlaw came round today to give me a bottle of jack daniels:yo:

i took his dog to get put down on friday (a big scary but old staffy, phhhft it might have caused you harm if you let it lick you long enough!) i get that job all the time cos everyone thinks im emotionless, sat with two of my own and a few of my friends gave me the honour of being the last face their pets saw (poor f#ckers), but this is a trend im starting to worry about, will i be seen as the albert pierpoint of the animal kingdom:dunno: or maybe even worse (a LOGISTICS COORDINATOR:h )

well because im not the heartless automaton that everyone seems to think i am, im off to drown my sorrows for the poor sod :B

mate, artemis gave me this when we had our sammy put down.

It helped me a lot.

If It Should Be

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep
Then you must do what must be done
For this, last battle can?t be won
You will be sad, I understand
Don?t let your grief then stay your hand
For this day, more than the rest
Your love and friendship stand the test
We?ve had so many happy years
What is to come can hold no fears
You?d not want me to suffer so
When the time comes, please let me go
Take me where my needs they?ll tend
Only, stay with me to the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see
I know in time that you will see
It is a kindness you do to me
Although my tail its last has waved
From pain and suffering, I?ve been saved
Don?t grieve that it should be you
Who has to decide this thing to do
We?ve been so close, we two these years
Don?t let your heart hold any tears

still feckin makes me cry as well :bang: :bang:

this post i must admit started off in my mind as a bit light hearted and although i spose im a bit affected, its sad to say i prolly am the best guy for the job. dont get me wrong i think a lot of the staffy iv got (as i have of the rest) but the poem artemis gave wolfie summs it all up, a good master makes sure a faithful dog lives well past its rightful years even up to the point where the only fair thing to do is put an end to the poor beasts suffering.

i can assure you i held them all untill they past away and sat with them for a bit till i knew they were really gone.

just read this and now my posts look as though i,v moved from hangman to arch angel, not intended:t

still 3/4 of jack daniels to go:yo:

A friend of ours asked us if we would stay while her pony was put down, the pony suffered with cushings disease, and a toe rag of a vet was ripping her off ?130 per week in medication and giving her false hope, after a lot of persuading from us she finally got another vet for a second opinion, he said "the pony is suffering, she will get worse not better, no medication can help her the kindest thing would be to have her destroyed" so Bev & I stayed with the pony while the vet put the gun to it's head and fired the bolt, although the vet assured us death was instant the pony reared up then fell sideways, Bev & I just sat on a log sobbing, the memory of that pony's last moment will haunt me for the rest of my life.

Another time, we were in the Vet's waiting to be seen with one of our cats we were admiring the old German shepherd sat opposite looking up at his owner when the vet called for the german shepherd, about ten minutes later the owner (an elderley guy) came out with tears in his eyes and the dogs collar and lead in his hands, we joined in with his tears.

good looking AND modest
funny that Shaun cos I get the same thing, "people asking me to take their animals to be put down" difference is it doesn't seem to affect me as it does you!! :dunno: 9 out of 10 the bloody animals should have been "done" long before I get em!! so I look on it as doing them a favour,! :dunno:
mind when I was a grave digger I was actually barred from the graveside during funerals  for laughing!! :dunno: it wasn't so much the situation with the dead, but the total hypocrisy most of the "mourners" showed!! ten minutes before the funeral and ten after it all laughing and joking with "crocodile" tears in between!!
have a few for me!!

That's the funny thing, when a friend of ours who we hadn't seen for a couple of years died of cancer we saw all our old friends again and after the funeral we all got absolutely shit faced (including her husband) there was none of the snidey whispers that we have witnessed at other funerals we all related our own recollections of Val, we played her favourite CD's and we remembered her for the beautiful, Vain, stupid, friendly, person she was, we carried on meeting with the old crowd & having parties throughout the night, all of us a few years older, none of us much wiser, but all still capable of enjoying a good party. we appear to have drifted again, until the next big party.

A few years ago when I lived in Folkestone, some very dear friends unexpectedly became redundant and homeless (they were publicans). There was no question - they could could come to my place while they looked for another pub, my place was quite big. So, a few weeks later a family of four (including a handicapped boy) plus a black Lab called Jet moved in with me. The whole situation was a bit apprehensive as I had a dog too - a lovely GSD. He knew the family and Jet so it wasn't too bad.

12 months later my friends still hadn't found a suitable place, because of the requirements re the handicapped lad. They were at their wits ends and I recommended they have a holiday to take a break, which they did - touring Cornwall and Devon by car, stopping in B 7 B etc. Jet stayed with me.

While they were away my worst nightmare developed - Jet took ill. I took him to the Vet (we had the same vet, so he knew me). He treated him and we went home. Two days later he worsened - probs with kidneys, blood in urine etc, and losing mobility. Back to the Vet who said he was very ill and I should consider euthanasia as he was distressed which was making him worse. Gulp!

I couldn't get in touch with my friends as they were on the move (no mobiles then). So I had to authorise the unthinkable myself, and sign this bloody disclaimer as it wasn't my dog. I held Jet til he was gone....... tough as hell under the circumstances, and I blubbed like a baby too.

But the real tough moment was when my friends came home a week later, I was truly dreading it. My dog jumping up and making a fuss........... They didn't notice at first, then looked around and "err - where's Jet then Rob??"

Shit, that was hard :h
