If the food is not to your taste or genuinely shite my understanding is that you can either legally refuse to pay or offer what you think it was worth. Maybe someone better informed can comment further but I think the provision is that you must leave your name and address with the restaurant, presumably to give them a chance to put things right (or send the boys round).Being a picky bugger when it comes to food I try to only use restaurants where you pay the bill after eating, that way if your food comes and its crap/late/not what you ordered you just leave it and walk out
