So, the witch hunt for the leaker has begun.

Personally I think whoever did it should be commended. I don't see this as a leak, more of a whistleblowing.

Like any other Chinese company, Huawei has to comply with any and all requests that the Chinese intelligence services make of them. It's law over there and they have no choice.
Now whether or not Huawei say that they won't collude with any Chinese intel agencies is irrelevant, they don't have a choice. No company succeeds at that level in China unless they get the nod from the Party.

So at what level is it considered sensible to allow an organisation which not only has an advantage over the West in the latest 5G technologies, but also is currently setting the standards, to install their equipement in our national infrastructure...?
It's not like we haven't seen this before either.... it wasn't too long ago that Chinese firms were being considered to run parts of our nuclear power infrastructure.

You might as well hand out copies of your house keys to the local burglars, confident that their promise to not burgle you will be honoured.

I use a Huawei mifi thingy when I’m travelling. They won’t half have some fun when they see what I’ve been looking at online :b2:

I'm just hoping with the Chinese listening to everything I say that my take away will be delivered a bit quicker if they already have a head start.

You have the option to agree or disagree to your phone and any apps having access to various parts of your phone.

They can only glean as much info as you let them.

It's not phones that the issue is with ... it's the actual phone network infrastructure that they're being approved to supply.

If you want to know how important having control of a comms network is then read up on how we (Britain) gained advantage during WW1 by controlling the world telegraph network.

Fair enough.

So basically we're all fucked, which ever network we're on. Because they all share masts now, don't they?

5G has the potential to revolutionise systems and services connectivity in the same way as we currently rely on the internet. If it then becomes vulnerable to hostile control due to embedded covert technology then it would be the equivalent of the internet being compromised and put under control of a foreign agency. Huawei have been excluded from supplying critical internet infrastructure components due to similar concerns.

The Huwaii issue is reportedly going to delay G5 by two years and cost the UK in the region of £45B (I think it was) !

5G has very limited cell range so there's a big bun fight now for street furniture locations (traffic lights etc). The amount of hardware is massive why this is such a big thing.

It is hard to imagine that the internet will be regarded as ancient technology one day...but as sure as eggs are eggs it will....and when it happens it will happen very quickly.

I wonder how much of 5g is the obsession with constant "updating" by companies telling us we need it so they can sell it to us or whether we genuinely need it? My nokia 6500 classic still works perfectly fine.
