I watched a programme on the National Geographic channel about a Hurricane pilot who during the battle of britain was on a mission to defend London, when his firing button jammed, he saw a German plane heading for Buckingham palace, and without regard for himself aimed his plane at the German plane taking out the tail section with his wing, he parachuted out but could not pull his rip chord as his right arm was injured so he had to take hold of his right hand with his left and pull, on top of this he was heading towards the railway lines so was in danger of getting electrocuted however luckily a gust of wind blew him on to a rooftop, where he managed to get down safely, the guy is now 89 years old, how come he has never been honoured? perhaps he should have gone on to win a couple of medals in the Olympics, or managed a football team, it just brings home how purile the honours system is in this country.
