RIP
Well me and the missus just got back from a week in Eire on the jolly old Blackbird and got a few thoughts.
I know its an old chestnut, but all the time we were there (a week in Carrick on Shannon) the only people to acknowledge you were from the UK ( a quick look in the mirror to see wot colour plate they had, UK is yellow, Irish is white) with the exception of, yes you guessed it, another Blackbird !!!
It was a silver one and the guy was pretty enthusiastic, but he was the only native who did it, are there any Irish members (ooo err missus) out there with an explanation cos whenever I waved or nodded I was looked at like I was a looney (maybe they knew).
Anyoldway, between leaving Aberdeen last Friday until we got back yesterday we did 1900 miles and although the bum did complain a bit (even with on of Mels seats) it wasnt surprising.
Here is a myth you can write off too, their main roads are fookin brilliant and the drivers are much more aware of bikes even if there doesn't seem to be many. Most of the main road were the width of dual carriageways with a slow lane that the drives moved over into when you came up behind them, brilliant. Any illegal speeds were more then possible, no cameras and hadly any Garda, only time I was 'talked to' was after crossing the border and I was gunned at 68mph (I was warned by oncoming drivers!)
I would keep off the smaller 'R' roads though, I think the R stands for Rough !
Needless to say the beer was dark and smooth and I only needed the rainsuit once so all in all a great week.
Piccy was just north of Sligo, in case yer interested and you can see the wide roads behind.
Off to the West Coast for some Island hopping so if you see a nice silver/purple Blackbird make sure ya fookin wave !!
