Hi,
Is this a quick fix??
2001 inj Blackbird standard suck and blow, upon cold start the choke revs to 3000rpm,then settles down to a even/normal tick over! After 1 minute.
Otherwise it runs fine there after, any wisdom?
Many thanks.

Has this behaviour changed recently then?
A few weeks ago my mercedes water temperature sensor gave up the ghost and the revs on startup were much higher than normal, it was also holding a higher gear for longer until it was really hot. New sensor and all back to normal. Just a thought.

That sounds like what should happen on a Merc. Johnboy. When I was rich and had a Ferrari it had a notice on the dash not to exceed 3000rpm until the temperature reached normal. Default setting on a temp sensor on a Merc or any modern autobox car would do the same to keep the revs down until it "assumed" the engine had warmed up.

Sadly or happily the ecu on the Bbird is nowhere near as sophisticated but I applaud your thought to enquire if this behaviour was something new.

High Rpm after start....

Hi,
Many thanks to all,re the Merc comment....was anyone here a owner of a mid 80,s Austin/Rover Maestro,Montego? They had a Lucas made ECU for Auto choke,it would fail regular as BL strike action, the first symptoms were high revs on cold start up,just a memory lane wander!
Thanks again.

Thankfully no, Phil.

Got my fingers burnt with BL in the late sixties so avoided anything from BL or it's descendants in the 80s. I bought a one year old Morris 1300 and a year later the Morris dealer refused to take it in part exchange without even going out to look. Arse end falling out of it as I soon discovered!!! 80s was my Mazda car phase with the odd dabble into Italian makes! We all make mistakes. 8rfl@
