Hello to all. Been on this forum a bit now since I got my bird this time last year. Thought it was about time I posted and said hello instead of just lurking. A scouser from Merseyside, over weight and passing middle age. Would like to get out on few 'local' runs to get into shape if theres anyone in the area.

cheers all.

Hi MAD

I'm in Manchester centre not a million miles from you, it's local on a BB innit..
If you fancy a meet sometime then the A580 sounds like a good meet point.

Hi Rhino, A580 is East Lancs init? that's a long road, but yes Manchester is OK. In fact I went to Bowlers computer fair last Saturday on the bird. I need to get into condition sort of. Last Sunday I went to a radio rally ( radio ham) at Drayton Manor country park. It was about 92 miles each way. By the time I got home my arse was killing me and my wrists were sore. I think the bars are abit to low for me. Also I have a large gut so a somwhate short reach. I thought that if I get out a bit more the aches and pains might go away. I don't use the bird all the time because I have dodgy knee joints LOL and I hate the rain. But I would welcome a tag along if theres any activity in the area, especially at weekends. I have it all made as the other half hates bikes, so yippe!

I have a 2000 F1 injection model in red with just 10K onit now. Prior to that I had an 86 VFR 750 and also a 1979 XS1100. Wrote the VFR off on a diesel spillage at 50 mph and sold the XS11 under pressure from the wife and kids a year later. But you know.........you just can't let it go can you? So I bought a bird instead 2 years later. :lick:

cheers.

There's only a handfull of people on this site without a big gut!!!

I'm no lightweight myself nor is GYPSY,Ianrobbo1,JAWS  , REEFER, DIRTY SANCHEZ (aka FOZZY BEAR)........loads of heavyweights..

Your wrists are probably aching as your not relaxing, a bit more venturing out and getting used to old BB will have you sorted.

Seems as we're fat bastids what about a meet at McDonalds near Haydock island (M6 / A580).... anytime for me as i'm a slacker at the moment.

Have a look on Owners Bikes.....mine is on there.....it's done 14,000 now.

Thanks guys for the welcome. I had been wanting to post for ages, and I don't know why I didn't LOL. I just love this machine, the adrehanalin (spelling) rush is absolutly awsome aint it? I bought a tent and sleeping bag to go with this bird. It also came with full Nonfango luggage. It is 2000 F1 and it had 8K last year when I bought it privatly. I paid ?4900 for it. Does anyone think that is about average or to much?

Unfortunatly the numnuts who sold it to me promised to send the service book on as he was moving house at the time and couldn't find it. he never did send it so I have no book. I do have 2 receipts he paid for servicing though. I changed the oil and filter my self a couple of weeks ago. I don't ride in the colder months because of knee problems. As for the radio, I havn't been on the air for a few years but my call sign is G6MMG and I still hold the license.

Nice to see I'm not the only large person on a bird, but then it is a big bike. A work collegue has a 750 GSXR he parked next to mine yesterday at work and the bird just dwarfded it.

Rhino I am not sure where McDonalds is on the A580. I know the petrol station by M6/racecourse on the left from Liverpool end, is it near that? If you fancy a buzz any weekend (weather permitting) I'm OK for that, or if its not to far I'm OK mid week apart from Tuesdays. I don't mind getting wet if I'me already out, but not to keen on going out if it's gonna chuck it down. My brother in law (who is a real biker because he rides a Harley :} ) calls me butterfly :} but the bird is stricltly for fun only, and ridding in the pissing rain aint my idea of fun.

I need for these aches and pains to go away so I can really test out this luggage. I would really like to go abroad on this but don't think I am physically up to it.........Yet. BTW what is the average age here? I am getting on a bit at 52 I suppose.

cheers all

I think McD's is about 1-2 miles towards M/cr from the petrol stn at M6/A580.

Could meet you at the petrol stn as you know it already and maybe have an hour or so one evening.
Your about spot on with your age i think.. Fat Bert is a similar age as is Rolfy Dave, Trophy Chap, 1200Pete,GYPSY,,,,infact nearly all of them are fat old gits %$fan ..
I don't make deliberate trips out in the rain if i can avoid it but if i've planned a ride then i'll still go.

Hello, Madhouse

For those of us whose joints are - quite without medical explanation! - showing greater signs of age than our mentalities, we strongly recommend consuming one heavy-duty Ibuprofen tablet with the meal taken immediately prior to getting the bike out of the garage. If expecting long mileage days (eg Northern Cloggers 'coast to coast' runs!) take one the night before too.

Pete & Jenny

When touring in France, we have found that the evening dose is best taken with the after-dinner coffee but NB!!! only works, if a chaser (or two) of Calvados is also taken. We strongly suspect that north of the border (but perhaps someone else could confirm this? - in the cause of medical research, naturally) that the substitution of any single malt may be equally efficacious.

Well that's comforting, not full of tear arse whipper snappers who think all old duffers like me are born again bikers.

Yeah I tried that, problem is it make me run the loo all the time. My problem with dodgy knees stems from kneeling down for many years behind the back of TV's as an ex telly engineer. :violin:

Rhino don't mind anywher on the left hand side of the A580, it's no problem. Give us a shout when its a nice night and you fancy a blurt. But no hero stuff as I aint quite able to get me knee down on this yet. I can't muster the bottle 8l1nd

w;;v Madhouse,

You may have noticed that the loonies have taken over the asylum! I only post to give Lumpy the humpy! c7u8 Limplump

Been quiet lately as just back from my hols in the Middle and Far East. g0551p

Also live near Personchester ? Bolton [where Jesus left his sandals?] and could be up for a ?pootle? ? isn?t that a dog. I?ve a 97 carbie in red with 67,000km [42,000 miles?] that I use daily for my commute [for now] to south of Wilmslow! 65 mile round trip soon racks up the miles and in all weathers. 8ree!

I too have reached the big 50 and could usefully lose a few kg, but it?s a wise man that builds a sturdy roof over the toolshed! :neenaw:

Been meaning to meet up with the locals so let's arrange something - when is good for you?

Gramps :k

Well the trip to the Lakes is as good as anytime for me. have not been up there since before I was married, and that's a very long time. So maybe all us northerners could possibly meet then eh? But there is no point in the Saturday for me as its halfway house, so it will be the Sunday assuming nowt goes wrong this end. I would like to tag along if its OK with you lot. If yer fancy something a bit more local then Rhino is also not far so maybe an evening or weekend also.

I wonder if the bloke I was talking to back end of last year out side Bowlers (Manchester computer fair) with the grey bird ( at least I think it was grey)and white CBR decals on the clocks is on this list. I asked him about the mushrooms he had on his bike and he mentioned Jaws, bet he is. He looked about my age (no offence if your not). It was a real nice bike.

Well I have to say you lot seem crackers. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible. I hope I can contribute something to this forum. I am no mechanic, but I have other skills in the Video/electronics/security field that 'may' be useful. If I can help I will.

cheers all, and again thanks for the welcome.

Welcome mon ami - don't worry about your joints and just relax - virtually all my joints have been operated on at some point in my life, in some cases rebuilt, still touring long distance under any weather the Guy with a long beard wants to throw at me... I guess the key is relaxing, easier said that done - enjoy the ride!

Too true mate. Amazingly I get pins and needles in my right hand only after the first 5 miles or so, and it's then all day. I remember reading an article in Ride magazine a few years back entitle "Ride like a god" LOL not that I will ever. But I remember it saying your forearm should be paralell to the ground. Now funny thing is.......because of my gut it means I have a short reach to the bars and my forearms are a long way to being paralell. But.........when the pins and needles start I get closer in and make my right forearm paralell to the deck and bingo after about 60 seconds the pins and needles go. Problem is I can't ride like that for long so back them come. So it must be my riding position.

@mickyb999
but me bird is blue how could you forget

Aw sorry mate, but remember this. Your bike even though I forgot the colour was nice enough to have been remembered. In fact I recall we were talking about the reg number, isn't it unusual because you have the gold casings. I remember saying something like "I thought the gold casings were on later bikes" and you said it had been completely rebuilt or something. Anyway it did stay in my memory, ................................not much does these days LOL :}

by the way are you color blind 8l1nd
not yet, but I have to go for a hearing test in June.......GEEZ man.
