Here's an odd one (cage related)

Just had the car MOT'd - different one from last year as that one has been forced out of business due to re-development.

Now, at last years MOT the front tyres needed replacing. Garage did this and handed out the necessary MOT.

Tester this time say the front tyres are 'directional' and rotating the wrong way. The tyres have not been off the car in the past year. Tester swaps the tyres round and passes the MOT.

The car is a 1.4 Renault Clio and the tyres are standard branded 155x13's. There are no directional arrows on the sidewall or any notes saying that they are directional. I have never come across this before and there is nothing in the handbook.

Can anyone shed any light?? or was the tester having me on?? :dunno:

It could be...

... that they are these new assymetric tyres. Have a look at the tread pattern and if it's not symmetrical then this type do have an "outside" side and an "inside" side.

Which I suppose does make them directional, in a way.

Could be that...

I think he's talking borrox, even asseymetric tyres have direction arrows on them, and the chance of these tyres being made in a 155x13 is v.remote they normally only use asseymetric tyres on semi high/high performance motors with at least a 60 profile tyre, was it a Kwik-Fit type centre ? If they charged you for a new valve and balance the guy is probably on bonus for what they call add ons

Might be wrong but thats how I used to earn my money about 15 yrs ago
