hi all thinking of going up to scotland for long a weekend break first kind of tour for me. going with a couple of lads from work and meeting Grapfruits (AKA dad) along the way as he going to john o grotes.
any way im after some advice on b&b's and places to see or great roads :-0)
we are thinking of staying in Crainlarich just north of loch lomand (only as it seems central) wondering if anyone been here or near the place all we want is somewhere to get some food and a couple of drinks but it will be our base for 2 nights so want to make sure it not a one horse town.
any other ideas from people would be much appricated
cheers martyn

The road up the side of Lomond is pants, albeit scenic. Lots of poholes, v. windy (as in it has bends, not bad wind) which sounds great, but isn't - tourist buses come the other way. On your side. So unless you particularly want to travel up the (west) side of the Loch - don't. There are other routes, longer but nicer roads and safer.

If you are just driving about there and not bothered about time and such I like the A83, A819, A85 option.

We've stayed at the Stagecoach Inn at Cairndow.
Rooms were good. food was good, but its not in a town, not even a one horse town, more like a one donkey (Its actually on a small loop road off the main road and is out on its own on the shore of Loch Fyne)

Push on a bit further into Glencoe, great road thru the glen and stay at the Clachaig Inn, or a bit further up to Fort William for pubs etc. Agree about the route up passed loch Lomond, I personally would travel up the west coast, great roads and stunning scenery, with little traffic. We rode back that way after a tour round the Glencoe area.
Turn left at Gretna and go up thru Dumfries and galloway onto the west coast, choice of Island hopping or cross at greenock by ferry then go west again avoiding Loch Lomond.
