On Thursday 3rd June 2004, it is alleged that my car was recorded by a mobile unit at 48mph in a 30mph area. This was NOT my car as it hasn't been to Bedfordshire for approximately 2 and a half years and I was at work with my car in the car park in North Lincolnshire at approximately 09:15 on that day. I don't do that kind of speed in a 30 limit. I got the photographic evidence from Bedfordshire Police yesterday, and it looks like someone has cloned my registration number. If you live in or near the Bedfordshire area (this guy was spotted in Toddington), please keep an eye out for a Silver Mercedes C Class impersonating mine. PM or email me and I'll give ya the registration number - I can't see the point in posting it publicly when I'm already being set up for doing 48mph in a 30 limit The guy is much taller than me (he can see over the steering wheel), and it looks as though he ducked down when the second photograph was taken, but if you want to help me track this bastid down, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in anticipation :k

Contact the Police traffic department for that area yourself so you know its been done and inform them of the situation. The folk on here cannot do a great lot apart from say "we've seen it on the A ?? whatever......"
The cops will be intouch with stolen vehicle team and they use a system called ANPR (automatic number plate recognition)the inteligence you supply the cops with can be put into a computer and if the car is within striking distance of the cops then the system informs THEM...

You need to get written proof from a senior work colleague ie manager, supervisor etc to state you were at work on the day @ the said time and simply send a copy to the courts before trial date..

If you can PROVE you were'nt there than that's the end of it.
The proof the cops have is a MERC 'c' class bearing your VRM speeding on film
and it's your job to prove otherwise.
Good luck.

Any contact you have with the cops re this make sure you log down times, stations and collar numbers (we have a habbit of not remembering we had spoken to members of the public about certain things, very convenient) :yo:

Also if recorded onto ANPR database then that will be national so the vehicle may be stopped anywhere in the country if it's running around, i.e. adjacent counties if they have ANPR setup. Good Luck. R#?

Whenever I post piccies of member's bikes (or cars, come to that) on this 'ere forum, I always take the time to obscure the number plates courtesy of PhotoShop. Given the amount of information that could be trawled out of the forum for a lot of members, then adding their number plate seems an unnecessary gift to potential identity thieves like the one that's plaguing Taz currently.

So, I would ask that all members who post pictures please take the time to doctor them to make sure that number plates can't be read.

Wise advice M8 and I agree as you know how I feel about inappropriate use of information from my hassles with the Numpties at Honda UK recently.

Is it worth relating this to the members so they can be forewarned if they get into a similar situation?

I will definetly be posting the tale of woe as most peeps think they are safe with two keys (I had three when it all went pear shaped)

also I guess the tech side of it needs a bit of an airing if the worst does happen to somebody else.

Just gotta remember to let my head do the talking not my anger :blush: :}

It is interesting to note that under British law its the normally duty of the police and CPS to prove that the suspect is guilty of the crime, unless aparantly, its a speeding ticket, then its the job of the victim!!!

They have enough proof........a vehicle registration number displayed and then they send out a NIP (notice of intended prosecution) also a letter requesting the drivers details.....that's the "driver/owner's" chance to give their account pre court hearing.

But, in your own words the driver needs to prove that it wasnt him driving the car, or indeed as in this case that the car wasnt his and as such he isnt responsible for providing evidence of the driver, surely its the job of the police and CPS to firstly prove that the car was his and that he was either the driver, or is with-holding the drivers identity.

But like you said, they have the irrefutable prove of a photograph (probably from behind), which includes a unique and unforgable (NOT) numberplate, and speaking as a person who twice now has had number plates stolen off a car (for god knows what reason) I find the implications rather worrying

..........it's now more difficult to have plates made up alledgedly. You need a V5 and a drivers licence now and the seller has to put his details on the bottom of it............much easier to nick some off the right vehicle IMHO :dunno:

Number plates are more than often stolen off one vehicle and then used temporarily on another for petty crime like drive offs from petrol stations etc. the CCTV is more than often inadequate so you get a very poor image of a vehicle and a plate as it leaves the forecourt, if your lucky.

Thanks folks

Yep, thanks for all your advice and support. Just to bring you up to date, I informed Bedfordshire police that I was actually at work on that date, gave them photo's ov my car and in particular the number plate - which showed the dealer mark as per current UK law, and they replied with a nice letter saying that it had been passed to some other office for further investigation and that I would hear nothing further unless they found the bastid that did it - then they contacted me two weeks later to tell me I hadn't provided them with information to identify the driver lol. However, a quick phone call sorted that ;)

I do have a suspicion as to who it may have been actually, as someone who was on the receiving end of my tongue (and nearly my fist) has sold his BMW and bought a Silver Merc  All I need now is a photo of the fat ladyparts and see if they match up ;) Time will tell.

As regards my number plate, I always black it out when posting, but some people are not as cynical as me, so who knows - but do as Clive suggests, and keep your registration marks off the web!

Take it easy now ;)

Whilst I would def not disagree with your sentiment Clive, and would urge folk to take your worthy advice, what is stopping someone simply reading your plate on the road ?
In this high speed comms day and age if I wanted a number for a Red blackbird I have no doubt I could get one within a few days.. maybe even hours.

...as only last month I had a new plate made up for my TRX, no V5 required, no drivers licence, no sellers details on the bottom ...... so it just depends on where you go. I wasn't even asked what the vehicle was. I broke my last plate using a paddock stand :bang: .

Which is a bit worrying because here in Peterborough is the number for my bike that I'd pay good money to have, N 850 TRX, and as my bike is "N" registered, the years would match. That number currently is on a dark blue BMW 3 series.

Law don't mean a bloody thing when money (for the plates) is concerned.

stan the man

you are not capable
bought a new number plate for my bird at the british moto GP at donny...they didn't ask for any info i.e. V5 etc etc, same as in any m/cycle show...so,it's a fookin joke...needing all this paperwork etc etc for a new plate....it seems :dunno:
