Had to do updates on three of my gps units today.... two were quite large updates.

Usually I can start the process, walk off and come back about three hours later and it is STILL updating

This morning, started one off, went down stairs for a cuppa, when I came back it was done .. About 20 minutes tops.. The other updates happened just as fast too

Or is it because the need to download data 'on demand' is reducing by the day as the usage of 'stand alone' gps reduces?

The gps is in my motor updates automatically and I guess that is where technology is moving?

Somewhere up in the sky I expect!

The point I failed to make is that wherever you are downloading from is possibly being used less than it was before so download has speeded up?

Incredibly unlikely Andy.. , though anything is possible.

Your OEM gps is either using you smart fone to down load or more likely has its own dial up to a dedicated server
