I had one years ago before they became legal due to a ruling in the Scottish courts.
About a month after it was ok to have one it got nicked outa the car !
Why the muppets want to ban them beats the hell out of me.
Why ?
Well it works like this..
Even the best of them suffer from being triggered by all sorts of stuff other than a speed check.
I ended up so fookin paranoid that I drove MUCH slower everywhere !
if they actively encouraged the use of these devices then I am sure they would be just as effective at slowing people down as GATSO's.
Of course that would mean less money levered out of motorists in fines, but hey, we are repeatedly told safety partnerships ( sic ! ) are not about raising revenue but about reducing accidents..
What a load of total fookin bollox that is !
Why oh why do the twonks in power keep trying to flog the same old crap to us ?
They would get more respect by telling the truth !
You break the speed limit its gonna cost ya.. and we are getting easy money from you..
Now how much more effective would THAT be !

Mmmm....I've heard you say this before m8, but neither of these hold for me. I've been running a detector on my wheels for nearly two years now, aside from saving my ass on quite a few occasions, the only false positives it shows are some of the 'door opener' systems found at supermarkets and shops around town. As I don't speed around town anyway it doesn't matter that it goes off.

I think that if you are going to use a detector you need to buy a really good one. You get what you pay for, and the high end systems do perform a lot better than the cheap end of the market. Plus, one or two of the wavelengths that used to cause problems have now been phased out i.e. the so called X-Band.

If it's a passive device, and they can't see you have one, how will they know?
I reckon they'd be hard-pushed to prove you detected their radar signal.

I rode into town (Peterborough) last week and passed two unmarked 'safety' cameras. One was on a tripod out the back of a plain white van facing the exit of the Brotherhood roundabount heading into town. The other was on a bridge overlooking the FP parkway almost outside Frank Perkins.

Lucky I wasn't going anywhere in a hurry, as I don't have a detector. :f

Bloody hell guys.....

Sounds like you're heading for a police state!

I've had a detector for over 2 years and it's saved me a heap, but there's no law against them in NZ and as far as I know, nothing scheduled. Active jammers are technically illegal though by contravening the Broadcasting Act and something else which I forget.

As a matter of interest, on the Kiwibiker website, I had a cop quizzing me about the effectiveness of my detector and where to mount one as he'd recently bought a 'bird and got done for speeding on the first day he had it
